PICUS have you ever gone to Downtown BMW to do a new car prep? If so - was it easy or did they give you a the cold shoulder?
I'm getting my car in late May/early June and was considering your service as an option. Thanks

Downtown and Autohaus are both reluctant to have a third party in the dealership to do a prep. Most guys who have me do the new car prep have it done at their home or at my place anyway - they pick up the car un-washed by the dealership, then I just meet them at their house or they come to me.
Regardless of what you do I'd suggest telling the dealership not to wash it. |

To be honest I believe that I'll get you to do the prep and a get a maintenance package off you as well. I enjoy detailing my car but I don't have the time to do it myself every week so the maintenance package will probably work out well. Should I PM you to get a price? As well rumor has it we get a 10% discount

Man, I prep'd that car for unicalex right before I got mine. I was seriously wishing I'd ordered AW then. It looked nice; then I got to see it later with his tint, mmmm mmm.

Fun day today. I got to prep an e90 335i for MOAB, and install two sets of aluminum pedals and blacklines. Check me out, Kevin your totally unauthorized BMW installer.
I forgot how much I like the BMW new car smell. Make me all nostalgic. Shoushi Malouche's got blacklines and pedals too, he asks you to excuse the filth. Man those pedals... if I never see another pedal again it'll be too soon. |

LOL. Great job by Kevin, the consummate professional! If you haven't had him detail your car, you are definitely missing out. Of course, when I got home, my wife didn't see any difference between the regular lights and the blacklines. Women...

I'm getting a new E93 in two weeks. Is the dealer prep that bad for the car??
Do you think I need to have a detail after I get the car from the dealer??? Do you also do weekly car washes??? And do you come to offices? I'm usually quite busy and would love for you to come by weekly while I work and wash my car. Do you offer that kind of service? |

For $$, I'd guess picus would do anything car detailing-related you'd like but one of the points of having a proper wax and preparation is that weekly car washes are easy (i.e. you don't need a pro).
As for dealer prep vs picus prep, it depends on how much of a perfectionist you are. Paint swirls are the main issue since the people doing the washes at the dealers are not exactly going to be using the same level of care as an independent professional. I was happy with my dealer prep but wasn't aware of the potential issues. I can't see swirls but I've never taken the car into a railed or touch car wash and I haven't studied every angle on the car for evidence of marks. I bet picus would find a few! There is little point getting a detail after the dealer prep. Either have someone like picus do the prep (i.e. tell your dealer not to touch the exterior of the car) or stick with the dealer detailing. |

Are they that hard to install Kev? I'm getting a set and was wondering. Seems you didn't enjoy it.

As for dealer prep, well, I am biased; so I will let others answer. All I can offer is this picture. I took it yesterday, it was as I was driving by a Toyota dealership, they were prep'ing their cars with a giant brush and power washer: Nope, thinking about it though! Actually it isn't bad, but you need the right bolts. The OEM bolts are a total pain to work with. They have a star head design and the nuts have a rubber gasket that make them a nightmare. After we tried using the OEM ones unsuccessfully we got some replacements from Home Depot and it went nice and smooth. |

I have been going through the site for about 3 weeks now and it is a fanatastic resource (and fun too).
Kudos especially to Picus for the time and level of information he puts in his posts on detailing for the benefit of all members. We are lucky to have someone in the GTA with his level of knowledge, passion and skills. I anticipate getting my car in mid-May and I will be signing up for the New Car Prep package. Now I just have to figure out how to break it to my dealer that I don't trust them to wash my new car! |
