dont get me wrong it is amazing, above 2500 rpms. an i have a very low tolerance towards droning. my last exhaust was taken of because i couldnt handle it (the car i had to drive every day).

u see some people say, it goes away, some say it gets even worse.

i am gonna wait and see, if it doesnt get any better, it will be for sale.

Eisenmann MS

Just installed it...it is loud and drones at around 2-3k. Secondary cats deleted, 2.5" piping all the way through and with an x-pipe

Will see how it is for the next 1000kms...if it still drones, will need to do something about it

Anthony - thks for the great wrapping and packaging...exhaust arrived in excellent condition. Pls check your PM re centre caps

may seem dumb to you,

but what exactly is the sound of drone?

although mine's not a 335i but i have the Ikon and res delete but the sound just seems normal, as this is what i assume thought will sound after these mods.

Drone is just the same constant monotone sound that get when you are cruising. Its just a loud, constant "Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm..." sound that pierces your ears and gives you a headache. Some people have more tolerance for this than others. Usually, but not always, the louder your exhaust, the more it drones when cruising.

You can't miss drone. It seems that at around 2K to 2500 rpm the exhaust frequency matches the cabins acoustics and the results are a deep resonance throughout the car. It's kind of like blowing air over the top of a beer bottle and getting the "fog horn" sound. It can make you downright sick to your stomach if it's loud enough.

If you want to have a nice sounding exhaust that is still loud but without the drone you have to figure out what frequency the resonance happens at, and cancel it. By adding resonators you are really dampening the entire system's sound down, a byproduct is less resonance, but you also loose the aggressive sound.

One way to kill a frequency is to bounce the same frequency back at the oncoming waves. That's why baffles work so well. That's why the stock exhaust system that everyone seems to think was so poorly designed is actually a really well designed system for what it was intended to do, kill sound.

Just realized that there is no drone while in DS. On the way back from Baltimore the other day, I had it is D and there was slight drone in cruise control at 70 mph.....none in DS

I have a 6MT so I really am not familiar with the difference between D and DS, i'm assuming that your RPMs are a little higher in DS?

Drone really kills the enjoyment of your car.

Had an aftermarket exhaust (RE Ikon) on the e46 and with an aftermarket intake, it was terrible. With the stock intake, it was much better. I'm staying stock - too many bad experiences with other cars too.

A few years back I had a GruppeM intake on my E46 and I LOVED it, it sounded like a vacuum cleaner. Shows how subjective intake/exhaust sounds can be from one person to another.

Yep, not much. Depends on the gear but at 70 it's not much at all.

C'mon, I like the sucky sucky sounds too!

It's just that the ECIS intake and IKON was not a good combo IMHO. Stock airbox plus IKON was actually pretty good.

Haha ... I was going to get an ECIS intake but their website wasn't working at the time, and being very impulsive I just went with a GruppeM instead. This was back a few years ago before they started charging $1800 for an intake.

Dang, I was in the market for exhaust but it looks like just about everything out there kinda drones...

Anybody here have DPs with stock catback? I was thinking of just doing downpipes and cutouts so I can open them at the track. Not sure of QTP(?) cutouts have become more reliable, hopefully they have... last I remember the motors broke every time you installed it.
