The performance 313's have 'BMW Performance' lettering under the lacquer on the outer edge and they also don't have the little indentation near the centre that takes the small ///M badge. I've owned both versions, I could probably do a side by side picture if anyone's that interested.
The performance version is the best |

Mine are not the performance ones then I have noticed that the ones I had replace under warranty, last week, seem to have a "greyer" shade to them than the new ones that are more silver....have thay changed the colur of paint they use since my 2010 car was fitted with them from new ?

Sweet, well mines an 09 so over 3 years now so I doubt i'd get anywhere. Can always ask I suppose! I wonder if they did replace, then as mentioned on the last post the colours are different, so then i'd need all 4 swapped? acerboo - They are the standard 313's, not the performance items. chris_S1 - I have thought about this but as they aren't that bad atm, I'd probably wait til all 4 had signs of chorroding before going down that route. I had planned to buy/refurb one wheel as I was a twat and buffed the rim

I've got the same problem with one of my wheels and it is only 18 months old and I have only done 11000 miles. Apologies for the cr@p photo.

Have you tried to take the wheel off? You may find that the corrosion is 'growing' from the inside, where the steel hub meets the alloy wheel. "Differential metal corrosion" http://aqueouscorrosion.blogspot.co....-galvanic.html
I had all mine off to paint the disc carrier last week and all 4 were corroded to the hub. I had to rotate them while knocking them with a rubber dead-blow mallet to release them. Not what I expected from a 3 year old car! Mine are the Performance variant. I reassembled with some mastinox jointing compound after cleaning up, to prevent further problems. Other than that they have held up really well. WM |

i run a bead of silicone around the inner of my caps to stop water getting in and keep the caps from every falling out
my old mv4s corroded from the back, 18 months old, and they were cleaned weekly with autoglym custom wheel cleaner (ph neutral) |

Do you have to take the wheels off to get the center caps off??
QUOTE=windymissile;13882102]Just pop the centre caps off and have a quick look inside with a little torch. If its all rotten, I suggest you take to the dealer. WM[/QUOTE] |

What! Can't they loan you a different set of wheels? I wouldn't accept my car being off road for 2 months!
You could buy a good quality replica for about £250 i think and then sell it afterwards.. Or borrow someone's winter wheels that are off their car? |

You'd think so wouldn't you but no, to the credit of the dealer though they said today they'll contact BMW and see if they can get a convertible loaner, fingers crossed. It's crazy isn't it, must cost them a fortune!
