Lowball Trade Offer for E91

Looked at an X5 diesel (CPO) at Maranello today. They offered me $25k in trade for my 2010 E91 with 25,000 km, sports, nav, premium sound. Black Book says $33,500 - $36,400.

Fair enough, it's a free market, they can offer what they want, but it's a bit insulting to say the least, particularly when they're asking $65k for a 2010 X5 diesel with nearly 80,000 kms. The most comparable CPO E91 in Ontario is a 2009 in Ottawa, with 40,000 km, no nav or sports package, listed for $39k. I've got to figure that Maranello would turn around and list mine for well over $40k.

it is certain that maranello (and other stealerships) intend to make 10,000 minimum gross for every cpo car sold. it is evident on the difference between lease residuals and cpo asking price.

i'm curious as to why you want to trade your mint e91? need more cargo room?

I'm always like this after a couple of years (not even in this case) with a car. Feel the urge to look for something new. More space and comfort would be good, too.

FYI, the trade-in value for the X5 they are trying to sell for $64k is $42k - $47k. A fair retail price seems more like low to mid 50s with that mileage. So they're $10k over with their asking price and $10k under with my trade-in price!

Not surprising. I was looking at a 2004 Phoenix Yellow E46 M3 at Autohaus with a friend last week. Then I was told the vehicle was involved in a $12k accident. Given the reasonable price they are asking as a dealer car, go figure how much gross they are making.

Bought my car from maranello. After enoguh haggeling, they showed me the trade in papers for the car. They wouldnt drop price anymore because they were only making ~600 after I was haggling for so long. It was marked up about 5k. 3-6k is typical for used dealerships; I've worked at a few when I was younger.

This car was in their lot for ~3 months and they just wanted to get rid of it.

Buy low, sell high, that's how a business does business. Dealerships are horrible when it comes to trade-in value. You always get more money when you sell a used car yourself.

Hmm I had good experience with Maranello, I've sold my 2004 BMW 330i ZHP with 140 000km for 18 000 trade in value with them

ouch, that is insulting. But i guess ontario and alberta dealerships work differently
I work at Edmonton BMW, and we have a 2011 CPO alpine white on black x5 35d with only 28700 kms and is selling for $69995 with tech prem sport + 20 inch running boards and roof rails. Thats pricey for a 2010
