Intermittent performance on 320d
I currently have a mapped 320d (163bhp) and ever since I have had it I have noted an intermittent fault where some times it feels really quick and some times it feels a little flat (mostly flat) it also has a slight jerk when driving around leisurely.
Before anyone says it's the map it was like this before the map I have googled this to death and it never seems to be conclusive, the car also has a low down pull issue like you have to get the revs up to pull away. Any ideas would be much appreciated. |

MAF sensor or EGR pressure sensor.
Call Jason at BW chiptune as mine had the exact same issue and he resolved it quickly and cheaply for me. MAF sensor was 150 from air-mass-meters (google) online.

Thanks for that, I had a feeling it was one or the other, I may change both items myself and if nothing comes of it I may contact Jason as I have good things about him.

Just an update for those who are interested, fitted new Bosch afm this morning, car deffo feels better and low down pull away is much improved. When I took it all apart the afm was covered in oil....not good!
All in all Still a little laggy and can feel a slight hesitation when pooling about, so egr is next on the list! |

using autologic and running MAF tests on mine we were finding that the turbo just couldn't provide the boost it was being requested to provide by the ECU. Once all the inlet was cleared out and MAF replaced it was back to within 10% tolerances (from 40% beforehand) and a completely different car to drive again... hth

Thanks chap!
Looks like its a busy Saturday for me then. On a side note, drove to work today, 11 miles driving mostly under 2,000rpm 30-55mph and the hidden temperature gauge only saw a high of 60 degrees. I know its cold outside as my ice warning light came on but still should manage more than 60 degrees from the coolant. On my way home yesterday it went up to 73 degrees so I think my thermostate is broked too. Should be able to improve the 41mpg I think. |

The diesels do take a while to warm up fully, I guess you had your heater blasting as well if it was cold which would also add to the time taken to warm up. Having said that I guess you would expect more than 60 degrees. I believe the 'stats can get a bit lazy and your car has done a few miles now so prob worth replacing both the EGR and main 'stat. This is a job i have to get round to doing. I have both new 'stats sat in the garage but haven't got round to it yet...
Also I reckon you should get the faults sorted and car running correctly before you do the re-map... |

If you want to try a cheaper fix you can get an electronic actuator arm (BMW repair part) and run a turbo/vmt cleaner through the turbo. I've decided just to replace the turbo so I get a complete new electronic actuator included and can eliminatebthe vmt issue. |
