One of the ways to help is to use only synthetic oil. If you do a search there are many people having trouble with this (Toyota, etc.)
However synthetic oil is an end all solution to this and requires less frequent oil changes, further decreasing consumption.

As for Toyota's issue specifically:

Quote:
Hanson says the problems have been concentrated where winters are extremely cold and summers are especially humid and among owners who make a lot of short trips. Hanson says the company is making an immediate change to its V-6 engine that will give a wider margin of error if people wait too long to change their oil. A redesign of the four-cylinder already incorporated a similar change.

Toyota spokesman John Hanson acknowledges that the anti-Toyota Internet comments contributed to the decision. But, he says, "It is not an engine defect. We are sure the problem comes from people not changing their oil often enough."

Hot oil isn't really that bad, as long as the oil doesn't break down. I wish I knew the water temp. =/

Hot oil is bad if the car goes into limp mode. That'll happen at 161C (322F). Anything over 290F is concerning. Anything under is probably not worth worrying about.

The OP came on with a pic of his car with the temp gauge reading 265! which is higher than many of us have seen before. That is not the kind of post that someone says "use the search button".

Sorry, it sounded like he was asking what normal oil temps people were running at. Which if you search for, you can find that they run from 210-270 depending on how and when and where.

an aquamist kit or some form of alcohol injection kit would be really useful for such situations.

not to reduce timing but to use them as a backup to cool everything down. some form of preventive measure.

I wasnt criticizing, just giving my opinion on why he hadn't gotten the dreaded I just figured he earned some props by showing the pic of his car 35 degrees away from limp mode

Live in phoenix, it's been pretty warm here and only going to get hotter.

Has 200 miles on it, I've punched it a few times. Getting ready to get on it pretty hard wondering if she's going to fry or not LMAO!

Where is this phantom oil cooler mounted, still wondering if I have it or not???

I want to do quite few cosmetic things to this car, but if it's going to be in the shop soon I might just wait

I'm in Phoenix also and mine's going to arrive most likely in July (I don't have a lot of faith in the early June date I was told...), and it ought to be 108-116 degrees by then so it should be interesting.

According to several previous posts in this thread, the air-to-oil cooler is behind the mesh in the lower front bumper on the passenger side. If you don't see a little silver radiator in there, you don't have it.
