A 1.7 is pretty simple for auto xi guys. A 550 is heavier than a 335 and depending on the year a tuned 335 has more hp. So come on man, at least admit where the i lacks just like the xi lacks from a roll. |

When I talk about races, I talk about 1/4 mile where the i wins. 60ft and 0-60 no doubt the xi wins in real world conditions(meaning no slicks on the i) |

Came in for the lulz. Wasn't let down.
Nailer--when are you going to link up with Terry so we can get RWD and AWD in one car?!

If Terry has time from August 4 through August 11/18 and confidence that this can be done effectively, I could make the drive from Phoenix to Simi Valley to drop of the car from him to work it out. It will require committed demand from the xi community to make it worth our time, resources, efforts, etc. is this a feature that the JB4 xi community would pay for? If so, how many people would be interested and willing to pay for it? If its a feasible feature with enough demand to make it worth it for Terry to work on and me to make possible through lending my car as the lab rat, the JB4 xi community would have to organize and voice itself such that it happens. Having the car switch from AWD to RWD after second gear at WOT would be a damn impressive feature that I would pay for without second thought. |

I recall the threads discussing peoples desire for this feature. I'll email Terry today. Everyone who benefits from this feature should put a ten spot in my paypal if I work this out
While we're at it, which FMIC is the best and why? I have searched so please no flaming! The reason I ask is because my situation is different- its really hot in Phoenix. I need a super serious FMIC for deserts. Maybe a new lip with some built in ram air scoops to add a bunch of horsepowers too by forcing all sorts of cold air into the desert specific FMIC. Academic evaluations addressing my uniquely specific concerns because I cant help myself are welcome Jk guys. Love you all <3 |

Fun thread, here are some points from my experience with the 335xi:
To the OP, if you're planning on taking your 335 to major power, stick with a 335i 6MT (clutch + axles + DR = GTG), if you want a good DD that can handle all weather without advance planning, go with 335xi on Conti DWS. -Conti DWS are the best all seasons I've ever had, very capable in all but the most severe conditions. -From a dig or slow roll the tuned 335xi destroys most cars on the street, as does a decently upgraded Evo/Sti, nothing new here. -60-130 time is 1 to 1.5s slower, I feel like the 100-130 time is the worst zone and the most noticeable. -Coming up on 250 full throttle launches, 85 at the drag strip, and still the TC is holding well. Not sure when/if it will fail, but I suspect I'll break an axle from wheel-hop first. -RWD 'mode' in the 335xi: I thought we had established the car was making the same power, due to having to push around the free-spinning front diff? I'm planning on doing a dyno this Saturday in RWD mode, assuming the wait isn't too long ($30 for 3 pulls dyno day). -Launching a tuned 335xi is NOT easy, 1st gear 6AT is very tricky when you have a lot of power. I can hit 1.8x all day long, but if you want to get into the 1.6x range it is more luck than skill as you have to time boost. I finally got to the point where I quit trying to get a good reaction time and just went when the car was at the right boost for launch. I've yet to get a 1.6x at the track with the Conti DWS though, the Pilot Sports I got 1.65 a few times, Conti the best has been low 1.7x, so there may be some room to lower 60' times on sticky summer rubber. -2nd gear launches WILL have a negative effect on 2nd gear on the 335xi, and probably the 135/335i just takes longer. If this happens out of warranty, I'd not go to the dealer (they always want to replace, not rebuild) and have a shop do a rebuild using Level10 kit. |

There would ne no reason to! You could enjoy all the pros of an xi without the drivetrain loss cons. All youd be stuck with is a bit of extra weight at that point.

I dont know about many peoples' experience here, but between what you and I have done to our cars purely from a launching standpoint I am impressed with the strength of the drivetrain on these cars. Prematurely breaking pieces is inevitably a question of when when taking mechanical pieces beyond the specifications for which they were originally engineered... But I would have guessed that this would have already happened a lot more than it actually has. When it comes down to it, I really like having all of my power all of the time whenever I need it independent of circumstance. That sums up why I love my "4x4" It puts the hurt on so many "enthusiasts" of other platforms independent of circumstance and condition, to most peoples' huge surprise. Best value, easiest and most fun/functional under the largest majority of circumstances and conditions. |

Terry has offered to figure out how to disable the X system via JB4 (if possible), but nobody in 1000 miles of him has provided a donor XI to experiment with. Not very many XI's in SoCal.

There was a guy that did a dyno in AWD and RWD mode, same day same dyno and the power was almost identical, was early in the thread about RWD like STI if I remember right.
When I get my dyno after I put on the FMIC and DP I'll see if they will let me pull the fuses while it's strapped down. |

If the shop thats doing your dyno day is like the one I went to... They'll get your car on and off as quickly as they can to get through as many cars as they can. The one I went to couldnt find it in them to let me turn on my laptop and log the damn thing. |

This thread has made me wonder what the result would be, I think I'm going to go out tonight and do at least a 60-100 pull in AWD and RWD on the vbox to see what the results are. I'll do a few to try and get some consistency out of it. |
