King of Prussia Pot Hole alert

Well, you guys that are in the KoP area know that the area isn't all that bad for pot hole, but they are around.

Well, yesterday, on South Gulph Rd, right outside of the Kingswood Apartments, there was some road work done recently. I guess that it is a temporary patch and they are planning on doing more.

Well, the "patch" developed a nasty pot hole on the south bound lane. I was doing the speed limit (40 MPH) and I ended up hitting this pot hole, and I hit it hard. It seemed that all four wheels hit. My friend in the passenger seat ended up hitting his head on the ceiling of my car. I was pissed, but I kept on driving and the car seemed fine.

I get back in my car a few hours later, and the (!) symbol was on the dashboard. I went straight to the dealership and dropped the car off. I just got the call saying that I bent the rim. WTF! So, I just called Nick at JLeviSW and ordered a new passenger side, front wheel. 19" Velocity Motoring V-715

So, in the mean time the dealership is swapping out my wheels and putting the stock ones back on. Then, next week when the wheel arrives, I will have to do it all over again!

On the bright side, I do not have to replace the tire. I guess it pays to go with run flat tires, even on after market set ups.

Sorry to hear that.

You may have to replace that RTF too. If the impact was hard enough to flatten your sidewalls, bend the rim, and set the (!) warning, then it may have compromised the RFT sidewall integrity too. You'll know if you feel a vibration, especially at 60mph +, even after the wheel is balanced when you get it back.

Been there before...

I bet if you didnt have the RFT, you wouldnt have bent your rim. Stiff sidewalls translate all the energy into the rim because theres no flex.

UPDATE: Well, I come to find out now that the pot hole is not what caused the (!) symbol to come up. There seems to be a manufacturing defect in the wheel itself. On the inside of the wheel, there seems to be an area about the size of a quarter that is porous, kinda like a sponge. I know, it seems unlikely, but it is there.

I have been working with Nick at JLeviSW and I have received the contact info for Velocity Motoring to ship the wheel back. Also, Nick has talked to them and they are aware of the situation.

Its funny, I actually had a chance to inspect the wheel myself (It is at the dealership right now) and there is zero damage done to it, other then normal paint chips. I thought for sure that the pot hole that I hit caused this, but it seems to be just a coincidence.

So, as soon as I receive the new wheel, I am going to pack up the damaged one and ship it out. If they determine that there is a defect also, they are going to refund my money that I spent for the new wheel.

I will keep everyone updated.
