new exhaust sounds great, smells bad

I had my catless dp, MS, installed with the vanguard exhaust. The combo sounds great, its just the smell i can't stand. Anyone with a similar combo have a solution? HFC? If not the stock exhaust is going back on.

Give it some time to break in with carbon deposits and the mufflers will absorb some of the smell. Give at least two weeks and smell will subside a little. You will still smell it but no as bad. I first had the secondary cats taken out and the smell was noticeable but it got better , then when I installed the catless dps the smell was really strong.

Blue, don't give up on it bro! You will get used to it! It's the cat less downpipes that give most of the smell, not the Vanguard cat back. I've only been running cat less for a few days and even my younger sister is used to the smell. The power is worth it.

No primary cats (main reason) = bad smell.

No 2ndary cat + no resonator = no smell.

Cats kill the smell, you can't take them 100% out of the loop & get no smell...maybe high performance cats from a bigger V8 motor might be merged into the system.

^ thanks for the encouragement guys, so far i have about 150 miles on the new dp and exhaust....is that not enough to break/burn them in?

yeah I know this for reading about it, but experiencing it is a different thing. Right now its bad and i hope it gets better.

I'll weight the options going back to a stock exhaust, getting a set of hfc put in, or an axel back exhaust...

HFC = high-flow catalytic converter.

That's going to be way too loud and annoying, at least I would think so.

I love the smell of catless exhaust in the morning. Probably killing brain cells though, or causing cancer, but who cares.....were all gonna die in 2012 anyways

If you're driving around with the windows up, always have the fan recirc on. Helps to prevent most of the fumes entering the cabin.

Changing values will not help. Drive with it for another couple of weeks then decide. Remember you are coming from a totally chatted system to no cats all at once

Drive the car hard and enjoy the power. Soon the smell will fade out and you will forget it as the smile will keep growing on your face

I have HFC's, they only help a little bit....not worth the money if you just want to cover up the smell.
