Some FMIC questions / cobb
Well i am striving for cobb2+.
I have searched many many threads and i got mixed reviews on the cheaper" FMIC's that sell on ebay. I have the VRSF downpipes and looking for a FMIC that will handle Stage 2+. Keep in mind that that is as far as i am going to go! no other mods besides Intake/Dps/FMIC . I do not really care if my $350 ebay Intercooler makes 5%-10% less hp than the $1K versions out there. i am not racing or tracking my car, its only for my enjoyment. i have been looking at the Godspeed 27x6x6 Bolt on intercoolers that resemble the AMS and spearco brand. anyone have any input on them ? http://www.ebay.com/itm/GODSPEED-06-...item3cbaa507b8 Quesions #2 - How will the dealer look upon having an aftermarket intercooler ? ( i know they frown upon downpipes) Thanks in advance for the feedback. |

It depends on the dealer, but they generally are more anal regarding downpipes than FMICs. Any FMIC would be a better alternative than stock FMIC though, thats for sure.

1. The ebay intercoolers work fine, it required a lot of cutting(The bigger one) (just like all the big FMIC) but work great.
2. The dealers frown apron any modification you do to the car, if the repair has to do with the mod, you more then likely be voided, They do everything they can to not supply you with free replacements. I would suggest going back to stock anytime you have to go to the dealer. |

^dont get that intercooler, its garbage. If you want a cheap intercooler, get the $150 godspeed rx7 v-mount intercooler. Its much more efficient. The one you're referencing has horrible pressure drop and isn't efficient

The KL racing FMIC is very good and also a cheaper alternative. FWIW, my car is at the dealer right now for a headlight error, FBO and not one word from the SA about the mods(the tech seemed to like the car lol)

If you want to save money and are willing to cut buy a V Mount FMIC. I bought my Godspeed V Mount for $150 shipped.
If you want an easy solution get the ETS FMIC. Either will handle COBB just fine. |

You may also be interested in our Helix Stepped core intercooler. It is the same intercooler used on LostMarines 500hp+ car as well as Vishnu's new single turbo motor. With that, you know it can handle everything you throw at it. It requires no cutting and takes up all the space available behind that bumper. It is notoriously one of the best, if not the best performing intercooler for the car. We are in stock and can ship out same day, please send me a PM if you want more info.

Why is the Godspeed v-mount, in particular, preferred for our cars over the numerous other IC's they have on the market?

Your other choice is to buy a brand-name (ETS, Helix, SPEARCO, etc.) 5" used unit from someone on the forum in the Private Seller section. I was lucky enough to get a new ETS 5" on a "Black Friday" deal and I'm very pleased with it. Your biggest concern should be the efficiency of the FMIC, which will win out over size every time. As an example, the ETS 5" is capable of handling 500HP, but requires no cutting and has no 90-degree bends in its plumbing.

But they do require cutting the shroud behind the bumper...
