Took materials in college.
When welding, a correct weld will not break, the surrounding material should break first. You should be able to grind a "good" weld flat. Had to do this with some intake manifolds. If it holds air and "you" trust it, why not. I had two piece ATS wheel that was repaired, but it was "my" wheel.
