Cracked Sump
Took my car in to get looked at as there was some oil on the drive. Hoping it wasn't going to be to expensive, I awaited a call. Then the call came... The sump had a large crack that was leaking oil. Turns out when the previous owner had the clutch/DMFW replaced the garage hadn't reseated the gearbox correctly. The guess is that they have used a bolt to wind the gearbox in and this has stressed the sump and resulting in a hairline crack to the sump. Over time with vibration its opened up Then came the big bit to swallow... £260+vat for the sump and gasket, 4 hours labour to fit. Recommendation to do the breather (£40+vat and labour) while there as it looks to be on its way out (and the last thing I need is the turbo to go as well!). Throw in the oil and service and I am looking at £800 inc VAT (at a reputable BMW specialist indy). Damn... there goes the modding plans for a couple of months
