Rotora Caliper Kit Installed--Impressions and Pics!

Hey guys,
First off, I've never been a brake guy. I've always focused on the hp gains and some aesthetics of the car, but I've never even thought to upgrade the brakes.
I always asked, "How can anyone spend 6k on something that won't make you go any faster?" Do they really work that much better?

Well, I still ask the question about spending 6k on brakes because I installed the Rotora Caliper Kit on the front and rear for far under 3k.

I ordered the rotoras from BJ at Vivid Racing, and I have to tell you that the quality of customer service was really good. I had a bunch of questions so I was constantly sending PMs and making phone calls to BJ and he was very understanding and he had all of the answers.

With all that a side, Let's talk about these brakes!
This kit came with all of the hardware needed for the install including the braded stainless steel lines.
The install went very smooth. The only thing that wasn't completely straight forward is the cutting of the brake dust shield behind the rotor.
The corners need to be cut on both the front and the rear for the calipers to fit. Yes, these calipers are massive!

Pros:

-My pedal has a constant feel every single time I step on the brakes.
-There is absolutely no fade! I've bedded in brakes plenty of times and by the time I reach the 6th time of braking, I notice the fade coming on.
This time when I bedded in the brakes the stopped the same exact way every single time!
-The looks of these things are awesome!
-They are 6 piston in the front and 4 piston in the rear.

Cons:
I only have one.
The caliper kits do not fit over the entire width of the rotor. This gets noticed after the car gets washed. With stock brakes, the rotors get a rust covering over the rotors, but they go away because all that needs to be done is do some braking and the brakes will scrape all the rust off.
Well now since the caliper doesn't cover the whole width of the rotor there is a rust ring that stays there unless you wipe it off. (You can see this ring in some of the pics.)
It doesn't bother me, but I could see how this could bother someone else.

Overall, I am extremely happy with my purchase.
I'm going to Willow Springs in January, and I'm going to race at Big Willow, so I won't have any worries about my brakes fading on me

The first pic is the front 6 piston.
The second is the rear 4 piston.
The rest are for your viewing pleasure.

Does that kit provide the option to install larger rotors in the future w/o having to buy any other parts?

Looks sick bro, nice job.

Thanks man!
I don't know about upgrading to the bigger rotors, but it seems like it would be possible if you got a different bracket along with the rotors. The bracket would make the calipers stick out farther to fit the bigger rotors.

Rotora is in the process of making cross drilled/slotted rotors and slotted rotors for the 335, but they aren't done yet.
From what I understand, they will be the same exact size as the OEM rotors.

I did install them myself. If you know about brakes then it's pretty easy.
The only thing that sucks about the install is the cutting of the brake shield.
Everything else is straight forward.

If you were having pedal fading issues, why did you not consider going for some cross-drilled or slotted rotors instead? Just curious.

A rotor alone won't cut down on the amount of brake fade you experience.

Great writeup and thanks for the pics! This seems like a much better option over a big brake kit. It's WAY more cost effective, you have more than enough braking performance (even for tracking) and you get all the looks of a big brake kit. Our OEM rotors are big enough (13"+) to look good with giant red calipers. I can't see why anyone would want a big brake kit with this option available.

Question: What pads are you running now? How's the dusting of these pads?

Mr. 5, what made you go with red for the caliper color on a silver car?

i'm debating a color right now and can't make up mind.

I guess it's just a matter of preference, but I personally like the looks of a caliper that stands out. I think the contrast looks the best when it comes to brakes.

Looks good, the CSL's too! They bring out the BBK - looks like no spacer was needed right, cleared and everything.

Yep. No problems whatsoever with the wheels fitting over the calipers.

Actually, one thing that I was nervous about was if my 17" drag radial wheels would fit over the rear calipers and they did!
That's actually the first thing that I checked after I put on the caliper.
This is great news for people back east who have a 17" setup for the winter.

Update.
I just ordered the cross drilled/slotted rotors for the rears since rotora has them already (the fronts are going to be out in jan/feb). I was thinking that it might look a little funny if I had them on the rear and not the front, but I was just itching to do it.
I'll post the pics once I install them.

So what was the outcome on mounting the calipers with the larger rotor? Is it still a direct bolt-on, or do you need a different caliper mounting bracket?

It's not a large rotor.
It's the same size as OEM.
