Indecent equivalent brake light bulbs? (Lumens)

I'm looking for some led brake light bulbs for my 330i that are just as bright as the normal indecent bulbs. I love the crisp on off function of LEDs but don't want to compromise the brightness as these will be brake lights. I don't want someone to rear end me sorry if this has been covered but I couldn't find an answer. Thanks

If you want brightness levels that are equal to the incandescent bulb, you're going to have to be willing to code your vehicle, or have someone code it for you--is that something you're okay with?

Although honestly, the DEPO LED tail lights are probably much easier and you will also get LED turn signals to boot.

Alright. Are you dead-set on keeping your OEM tails? If not, you could get a pair of those DEPOs and toss in a set of ridiculously bright white LED bulbs for the reverse slot, and call it a day.

99% of the aftermarket bulbs out there will be dimmer then a stock halogen bulb. a halogen bulb averages about 22 lumen/watt.

i'd say that any led replacement bulb that has plastic on it will be significantly dimmer.

Okay, then I can help put together something for you.

So here's what we'll need for TWO tail-lights
2x Amber 1156-type bulb (turn signal) - Select Amber, qty 1.
2x White 1156-type bulb (reverse) - Select White, qty 1.
4x Red 1156-type bulb (for the "lines"...not sure how to better explain that one) - Select Red, qty 2.
4x Red 1156-type bulb (for the stops) - Select Red, qty 2.
2x Red BAY9s/H21W-type bulb (for the rear fog/emergency brake light) - ignore for now

I would not do this. Seriously. It comes out to being 261 in bulbs. Now, you can add all this to your ebay cart, and then click the request total from seller button. I'm sure you could get a discount for such a large order. But even still...this is a lot for bulbs.

Heck, this is an option too, if you want that LCI look. And if you want bright LED brake lights, then just order 2 sets of the red bulbs from above.

If you want to keep the OEM look, then this is yet another option--then get 1 pair of the 80w reverse bulbs for a nice bright backup light. I think THIS is your best option. You get a crisp, LCI-esque LED turn signal and LED brakes. And it costs about the same as all the bulbs.

thanks! good info as I didn't know they made the clear (non smoked) lenses. looks like this will be a better option. Do these need coded in?

In *theory* they shouldn't give you any errors, but the 2006 and some 2007 vehicles are just notoriously difficult and will go down throwing codes, kicking and screaming, unless errors are coded out. You won't know until you know...if you know what I mean.

That's a lot of effort for little difference. At the end of the day in the standard housing nobody will be able to tell you have led or not.
