whining noise at high rpm?
I'm just wondering if it's normal for the N54 to be making high-pitch sound at 4K rpm and above? The sound is pretty noticeable inside the cabin.

I hear a whining noise in the cabin as well.... Mine isnt the engine though.... I actually took it in to service to check it out and they said its a fan that kicks on to cool the electronics in the dash(near the glove box area)... They claim it's normal but it drives me nuts!

this shouldnt happen unless u have AA Xede or Procede. I have the Xede and u can hear a pshhhht in the high rpms due to more boost and also i can hear the turbos spool up harder and louder. Mike.

My car is bone stock with 1,400 miles. The sound doesn't seem like it's coming from the turbos, since I can hear it during deceleration as well. To me, it sounds similar to the whining noise from my EVO's tranny (which is normal).

^ lol.
I was thinking along similar lines. The only whining I hear are the passengers complaining about my high speed antics. |

Do you only hear it on decel? The alternator has a one way clutch on the N54's that lets it freewheel when the motor spools down quick. Put the car in neutral and rev it to redline then let it come back to idle quickly. You'll hear the alternator wind down slowly.
If it's not that, figure out if it's engine speed dependent or vehicle speed dependent. Does it come through the radio speakers?

The latest software update should fix this. I checked with the dealer already and they said by uploading the latest software into the car, the noise will go away! I haven't had the chance to bring my car in for the update but once I do, I hope the sound will go away. Will update you guys once I get it done!
