I live in SF East Bay area and have never had a problem with no front plate for the past several years. My son-in-law who's a police officer in SF East Bay area told me they generally don't pull you over for missing plate alone. They can, but unless there's something else (other traffic infraction, suspect activity, etc) they usually leave you alone. |

ive gotten like 10 fix it tickets for plates on my accord so i dont think there is a limit lol. on the bmw i just got one in SF and so far SF is the strictest plate city ive ever lived in so i will be running plates.
ive also got a plate ticket with the license plate behind the windshield. i guess the cop just didnt see it at all and then noticed it on the dash after the fact and said it wasnt "secured". i read thru all the ca dmv codes and it just needs to be a certain height and secured and visible from the front, but it doesnt say it must be on the bumper. |

Sounds about right. I got a fix it for my MCS back in 08 and it was about 120ish. The officer was very cool and told me they only ignore Porsches and Ferraris.

I've been running around since early November without a plate, have passed countless cops and CHP's… not a single problem.

The state is hurting for money, so what better way to generate revenue than to see a nice car and pull it over for a minor infraction? They know you'll pay up. It's small enough that you probably can't be bothered to go to court, and if you stiff them, you won't be able to register the car. It's a lot safer to pull you over than a car for speeding, knowing the scumbag factor goes up with a speeding ticket, so instead of a well-to-do guy in a Bimmer, it might be a trunk full of weed and a gun in the glovebox.
I've been very careful driving for the past two years in California because I know they're actively looking for revenue sources. |

I wonder if they'll do a walk around for other discrepancies if this happens. But at least he wasn't a prick.

Im in Socal with no front plate since 2008, got a parking ticket plus a no front plate ticket once($10) but that is it.
i have gotten 2 speeding tickets and rolling stop and the officers never even metioned it. i guess its really case by case but most cops are not looking for your front plate.

It depends on the officer...I was driving in SF streets when a cop on motorcycle turned around quickly as soon as he saw my car (previous car) w/o front plate. He didn't pull me over for any other violation...just for the no front plate.

its still a fix it ticket. doesnt matter if you have 1-100.. but they are atleast $25 now instead of 10.. i remember the good ol days =[ If you go to the court and ask them for a print out to correct the ticket they should be fine, the cop tried to fuck you by putting non correctable but in reality it is and you have 3 months to do it as well

San Francisco - Cops don't care, Meter Maids DO care.
If you park in a place that a Meter Maid will check (meters, street cleaning, etc) then be prepared to get a ticket 1/3 times in SF. After 4 tickets @ $114 a pop I caved in and picked up a tow hook mount. If you do get a ticket AND still refuse to mount a plate (permanently), just buy a cheap tow hook, find any police officer to sign off, and mail it in with $10 and you are good. |

According to the laws in CA (my apologies for not knowing NJ laws), the front license must be displayed if two are issued from DMV. Second, the front plate must be securely attached to the front bumper. Thus, the tow hook display unit will suffice (a huge bolt is much more secure than two tiny screws). There are some places in the Southern CA area that strictly enforce the "no front license plate" violation. And yes, parking enforcement officers will write a ticket for no plate (and no other violation). Seems petty, but many cities need the money. I believe some tickets can be reduced if you demonstrate (take a pic) compliance, not eliminated, just reduced. Semper Fi |

I just got one this morning!!! My car was parked in a "very nice" suburb residential street, deep into the neighborhood away from any serious traffic streets and a douche bag Sherriff decided to drive through there and actually give me a front plate ticket. Honestly, I think its sad that these cops drive threw residential streets "looking" for these types of citations.
I understand that when sh!t goes bad your asking for help from cops, etc. but c'mon when cops do stupid sh!t like this driving in the early AMs of the day trying to find fix it tickets in residential areas then that is just plain stupid. Be a real cop and drive around looking for people that are truly breaking the law! Not a lame $38 fix it ticket. I don't care what people start saying and bashing me about my opinion, the definition of a cop is to protect and serve us from true criminals or those being a threat to the public with driving recklessly, etc., not drive around trying to find people with tint, front license plate, etc.
