Weird RPM Surge

Not paying much attention to it because it only happened once, my N55 only has about 24k and as i started it at work today the RPM shot up to about 1200-1400 which is usual but suddenly it dropped all the way down to 350-450 range drastically. The car felt like it was going to shut off so i drove it around the parking lot, shut it off and restarted and it was perfectly fine. Reason why the RPM went so high is also because its about 25-30 here in boston. Any idea or am i overreacting

Could be a few things. If it keeps happening I would check for codes you might have a bad coil.

Happens to me all the time. Usually only when I'm on JB4.

A little late but just for anyone with the same problem and has a 2011 e90 335 N55 motor, dealer updated my software (DME) and the problem has been resolved.

So will the updated jb4 software be the fix or the dealer update? I'm out of warranty so will that cost me anything? Thanks.

had a similar issue a dme update did the trick, with weird rpm problems like these I've many times found the answer to be a simple dme update
