I've been "training" my car this last year in D and DS modes. When you feel like you want to drive more aggressively, put it in DS. You will get the higher rev and jerky shifts when you punch it. When you just want to cruise around, put it in D. I find my car more responsive (than the default responsiveness, if that makes sense) in DS now when I put it there. I've also hit the DTC button once in a while and I like it. Less noticable micro second delay upon full throttle from stop.

Same here....no difference.

I believe the tranmission computer is constantly evaluating driving conditions...speed, lateral g forces, breaking, acceleration, movement of the throttle (how fast your stepping on the gas) just to name the basics. I have seen someplace that the tranmission has a few different "maps" that it can use to meet driver expetations.

long explination shortened...the tranny (both ZF & GM) is constantly evaluating driving conditions and selecting the proper program.

Basicaly as you know your tranny "learns" and changes itself according to your driving style. Depending on how you have driven you may notice really jerky or rough shifts between gears if you have driven aggressivly or really slow passive shifts from driving like a grandma

Simple steps

1. Turn cars electronics on-push start button once or twice without turning the actual engine on.

2.Hold the gas pedal to the floor for 25 seconds
3. Most times you will hear the gearbox resetting itself and hear some "noise" coming from your car but not always noticable so dont worry if you dont
4 Now start your car and enjoy the gearbox reset to its factor settings and open for all new learning. The shifts are silky smooth again and shift points shift faster-basically it totally makes your tranny perform better.

It is a verified thing by BMW and definetly works
Does any message appear on the display after the 25sec period has passed or you just wait for 25 seconds and assume that the job has been done?

I tried the ECU reset, but didn't feel a difference.

Though it did make this happen to myself and a friend

is there anyway to keep the engine coolant temp on the display permanently. seems as if you have to go back through the menu everytime you turn the engine off

and to any smart guy who says leave your engine on cause i knew it was coming

I picked up a not-so-gently used 335 coupe last weekend and spent the week trying to figure out how to launch smoothly in traffic. Giving it gas, the engine would rev a bit then the tranny would kick in for a somewhat jerky start. I tried the procedure described here and I noticed a big improvement. It's much smoother.

So it either worked and I'm satisfied, or I think it worked and I'm satisfied.
