OEM USB installation
Hi all,
Ok so I have been looking around this site for the last couple of months. I currently own an E92 335d m-sport which has pro nav but doesn't have iPod or USB which is annoying. There doesn't seem to be concrete answers as to whether it is possible to install. I understand there could be coding involved, something I'm quite interested in. Auto electrics are nothing new to me and I'm willing to have a go. So.. if I get the OEM USB parts, wire it in then is it a case of coding it to the car? Does the USB plug into the HU? Cheers!! Dan |

the ipod retrofit kit is a LOT easier than USB, but still requires a lot of wiring work and coding.
but it'll give you track names on idrive etc. if you get it working, do a thread, i'm tempted, but when i looked into it, it seemed like WAY too much work for so little result. |

Yes you will need to code the USB in, there might be a FSC activation as well. not 100% on that though.
Found this, not sure if it helps: http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/att...0&d=1352652111 |

Is it lci or pre-LCI? Ring your dealer and give them your vin and ask if you can have 6FL retrofit kit fitted in your car. You will get the answer. If you are happy, purchase the kit and ask them to print the instructions for you and have a go at it. I'm going to install 6FL+ Sound system in 2 weeks time on one of the forum member's car and that is LCI E92.

I think all LCi E92's with Pro Nav had USB. It seems to be the Late 2008 and 2009 cars that missed out. My car doesn't have it with the later Pro Nav but I have a LCi E90. Just the USB in the glove box for uploads.

I've got the iPod cable upgrade done by a BMW dealer, can strongly recommend it. iPod lives in the glove box and everything is available quickly and easily on the screen.

Have you got Bluetooth? If you have it will make it a lot cheaper to retrofit USB than if you haven't.
I haven't got USB or bluetooth but I do have CIC Pro Nav. My dealer wanted £1500 for bluetooth installation so I'm having a 3rd party unit fitted (Mobridge) which will do bluetooth, usb and iPod. |

For OEM USB install, you need the following:
MULF or MULF2 (check if your car has it) USB socket for centre console USB cable to run from centre console to boot (MULF) AUX cable to run from centre console to boot (MULF) MULF 28 pin connector for aux+power Fibre optics cables to wire to MOST junction. And, a bit of coding to add 6FL to your VO. If your software is pre march 2007, you will need to update your CCC software. Let me know if you need any help. |
