Hi after only 15k miles I have about a inch of smoothness round the edge of my front :mad: RFT's

This seems way too soon !

Anyone else had a similar problem and do you think I could get them replaced by the dealer as faulty ?

Check your tyre pressures. I neglected mine for a little too long and caught the same problem fairly early.

The a couple of weeks ago I had a real puncture in one of the rears, and decided to get the worst front one done as well (and the better of the worn fronts moved to the rear).

The RFT monitor will detect a flat, but not just slightly lower pressure, but the car will be supported more on the sidewall in that situation, hence the abnormal wear.

Put the recommended amount in when cold, plus the first gargage i went to and set them up it didnt feel right so went to another and it registeresd 5 psi lower..!!! Made the world of difference.

Mine are going on the outer edges too - at 15,000 miles. I keep on top of the tyre pressures. On BMWLand it has been suggested that this is a current problem with run flat tyres.

This would surely be hard for you to prove its a fault with the tyre???

BMW will just say its down to your driving wont they?

I've done 15k and my tyres are fine. Mind you I never drive the car very hard. I'm what you call a slippers and pipe man...

Recommend you buy a little digital pressure guage from Halfords. That way if you have a tpm warning you can easily see which tyre is the problem. You can also check that you have filled to the right pressure.

I need to check mine. I've done 12000 miles now and I have loads of tread left, but I can see some signs of feathering on the edges. Maybe they are a wee bit low.

The other thing to check of course is the tracking and wheel alignment. Here in London my wheels get a hell of a battering from the poor road surfaces and the traffic calming measures. The important thing is to go to a specialist tyre dealer who has the computerised 4 wheel alignment rig. don't even bother with a place that uses mirrors.

In addition the moped manics here have cause me twice to kerb the car in attempts to avoid their 2 wheeled acrobatics. My alloys have suffered badly because of that as well. I didn't manage to get the b^%*!#ds number either.

I had my E46 aligned about once a year (and it usually needed it). Time to get the E90 done I think.

Mine are the same on both fronts - more or less bald round the edges - 25k so far. I also check my pressures with a digital gauge. I was thinking of mentioning it to the dealer next time I'm in. Can't hurt!

My car has done 18k and there is some sign of wear on the rears (mental note - must stop sliding around roundabouts

) The fronts seem to be ok. Even with the abuse I give - I tend to drive like I stole it! (its just way too much fun sometimes)

As I have different width tyres front and back, the lease company can never swap tyres around

So I get my money's worth

I agree with needforspeed as I use a digital gauge too - the petrol station ones are rubbish.

This is very common, though not so much on 18" wheels.
At the BMW dealer near where I work 3 out of 9 E90/E91 were showing outside edge front tyre wear 2 cars with Conti Premium Contact 16" and 1 with Michelin Pilot Sport 17". The ones that were not shopwing it were 18" wheels and/or younger models so probably not enough miles to show it.

This is not an alignment/tracking problem, that checked out OK on my car.
Not a tyre pressure problem in my case either.
