Sounds as if you were quite impressed with the R no good on finance figures but £600 pm does sound a lot. Hear a lot of people say they don't want DSG but after a couple of weeks with them they don't want to go back to a manual (plus Launch Control is great fun) If your looking at the VAG brand another Car to consider could be the S3 although the older shape might not be to your liking but as a new model has just been launched there could be some good deals on the older model and there also seem to be more Manuals for sale.

Still need to arrange to see you mate don't I; will be in touch...
As per my email.....997. A nice 2009 car would be easily attainable for £600p/m and.....AND.....be more economical than probably anything (petrol) you've considered so far!

Yes, let me know when you want to pop round. We can then pop round the corner and see Real Thing and have a laugh at his wider front tyres

Yes Chris, I was quite taken by it actually, ticked quite a few boxes and looked the part. But, the finance figures are frankly shocking, and can't quite understand how people afford them in the first place (even if you put a larger deposit in it still equates to the same cost in the long run). I reckon they'll come back to me tomorrow so will hit them with the truth on the finance figures are just not acceptable.

And Andrew, behave, whilst a 997 would make me a very happy bunny indeed, not sure it'll be the wisest decision I've made. Happy to come and jibe Chris and his back-to-front wheels

We could go and look at this when you pop over too.....

http://classifieds.pistonheads.com/c...2-coupe/686296

See what the finance figures are like Reckon the kid would fit too as the rear seats are mildly useable See, I'm even considering your family in this....it's an all round PRACTICAL proposition, the only right thing to do

It certainly felt planted to the road, very solid, and confidence inspiring. Handled well (as far as I could tell from the brief test drive) but completely forgot to test the comfort/normal/sport settings - doh.

The looks, I think the R looks the absolute bollocks, especially with the sunroof (almost gives it that M3 carbon roof feel) so wouldn't have a problem at all with having one sat on my drive.
Glad you got on with the DSG, their is hope for the caveman yet

Sounds good and quite quick....but for that price no way!

Anyhow...have sent you that mail with some options on the M-lite

Or just keep the Zed mate - cost to change on this Roco (or any other £600 pm) car just doesn't add up or save you any pound notes

Roger, drive the deal quote a £3800 discount on the Scirocco R DSG. Although you can't px with DtD worth checking them out for a finance quote, it says that the subsidised finance rate is 7.1 % and three years free servicing.

Pete, you're a genius, don't know why I didn't think of that before . E-mail just sent . Seems there is a healthy £4k discount being offered (I've mimicked the spec as closely as possible) plus if they do better on my car's trade-in my deposit has just been doubled. Mmm, we'll see, but thanks .

You may have to sell your car separate from the DtD deal, didnt you have a Nissan mate who you got your QQ from? Maybe they would buy it off you for cash? Its not and ideal time to be selling a ragtop though.

My contact moved to Canada to run a dealership out there unfortunately; no wonder he did such a good deal on the QQ! I'm just asking VW to match the DtD price as if I ordered through DtD the car would come through the same dealer network anyway - it just so happens this one is already built.

I've e-mailed all the details over and just spoke to the chap who's helping me out. They've already improved upon the trade-in price so things are getting better. Still will be amazed if they scrape a deal together to lure me in but we'll see.

Roger,

Keep pushing mate, they will fold in the end. For £600 a month you could get into some very nice cars, my porka is £200 more than that and was nealy 3 times the price..

I spent all weekend looking for a new car for the wife as we are expecting are first child.

Most dealers I spoke to were willing to deal and were open to matching the price I had got from dtd except for barons of farnbourgh who were just overpriced and basically not willing to deal. I showed them 3 x6's all with the same spec for 3k less at a dealer and asked them to match it and I would but it, they just wouldn't move.

Anyhow I ended up buying a new C180 Amg Sport, yes very different than an X6 but it was a cracking deal and will be cheap to run.. 15% off a factory built order with two years servicing and a huge saving on her company TT.

I am not sure what your requirements are but they are doing some amazing deals Merc's at the mo with some silly rates of finance, Bmw are doing 50/50 with 0% and so are Jag and the discounts from Dtd and broadspeed are just silly. A buyers market it seems...

Scott, congrats on the expected little one, thank God the TT is making way and not the Porka .

We'll see what the dealer comes back with on the new car but not holding my breath. Typically Palmnuts has got carried away with the £600 figure; this isn't the 'new' budget just because a dealer quoted it, in reality it's a lot lower, but not really sure what it is (will differ dependent upon the car in question and its running costs) .

Whilst I do really like the Scirocco R I'm not sure whether it's the right car for me just now. They're still a touch too expensive and, whilst more efficent than the Zed, not enough to warrant a hefty increase in finance payments. I don't mind busting the finance open for something like a 330d, as that will literally half my fuel bills, but the R will only improve things by a bit.

I've been given a pretty good offer on a used R but still a touch over what I'm happy with given the relatively similar mpg. I've just backed out of that deal so unless they come back to me with a ridiculous deal (and I've already nailed them down) I'll stick with the Zed for now and stick new tyres on it.

Will keep scouting around for a decent E92 330d though but they're pretty damn rare with a manual box & decent spec.

Can't quite understand why a DSG VW would be considered but an auto 330d, or the real one you should be buying, the 335d, are not in consideration.

You've got a good point, in my mind I considered the DSG to be a different kettle of fish that a standard auto! Would still prefer a manual!!

I still don't get why an M135i isn't in the running. Probably get it for around £400pm at the most, you can get a manual and the running costs will be better than the zed or the rocco R.

We all promise we won't make any comments about you and TMP having matching outfits Promise.

Bingo and lol !

I have already found him a deal for a manual M135i for £370ish a month (although that is a base spec).

He has it in his head that a 330d will halve his fuel bill. Problem is diesel is more expensive and the speed Roger drives.... hmmm

Roger, I am tending to agree with the M135i contingent. I sat in a new 1 series M Sport today, very impressed with the interior and dash layout, better than a Scirocco in my humble view.

I drove passed the local dealer Tim alluded to (with the M135i in the window) twice today. First time I thought I'll nip in on my way back, the return journey was luckily distracted by a conversation on the phone about a rather splendid pair of breasts we (me & the chap on the phone!) had just witnessed - I was accused of flirting which I find grossly inappropriate . Anyway, I didn't pop in, so don't know what gearbox it has (was Estoril surprise surprise!), but the week is yet young.

Anyway, just for the record, autos are still for the gay & old

I should point out that, whilst I contradict myself, I could never bring myself to part with £34k on a VW, but as I can't buy a 2 year old M-lite yet for £12k less, the Rocco option wins.

Seem to be quite a few pre-reg M135i about, my local dealer has a manual in estoril and another dealer close by have an auto in white which sounds rather tasty.

Also still mega deals on M3, yes I know the fuel is high but at £399+Vat per month and about £2500 deposit there's plenty of fuel money left :-)

I wouldn't bother with a pre reg M135i unless I was buying cash or just could not wait for a factory order. The interest rates on the pre reg cars which go through AUC mean that ordering a brand new one is actually cheaper on a monthly basis due to the current deals.
