3 month old bonnet badge has turned gold

Bought a set of carbon fibre badges for my car about 3 months ago & it has gone from looking a silver colour to a gold colour. To be fair it looked a bit off from day one but gradually has turned more & more goldy looking everyday that it was hard to see the real change but now it looks rediculous. I bought the complete set for the car including wheel & they are perfect.

I sent this message to the seller.........

Hi mate, I bought a set of badges for my BMW &i have a problem with the bonnet badge. It has turned gold where as the others are fine. I have lived with it for a while now but I have had one or 2 comments about it now so I think I need to do something about it. I am quite happy to send a pic of it & even return it as it does spoil the car.

The Reply......

Hi there,
Just received your message and understand the concern.
We do have warranty for 30 days on purchasing. Transaction has been over 60 days.
Besides, a few customers also encountered this problem, we have reflect the situation to our supplier, they have upgraded the emblem now.
As you are our valued customer, we can offer a 5% discount for purchasing another set .
If you are interested in purchasing a new set, please let me know and i will send you an official invoice for item.
Thank you again.
Cheers,

- angel-lights-uk

My Reply.....

That's not the response I expected to hear to be honest. In fact that is very very poor. The fact that they have discoloured and is a known problem makes me even more unhappy because I have recieved substandard quality goods through no fault of my own & am expected to pay again to make things right. What good is a 60 day warranty on a badge? It doesn't even move or do anything.

As I am an active member on several BMW forums I will posit my experiences of dealing with you on there.

5% off a full new set!!!! Is it a prank?

I was thinking about some carbon style badges recently and think I spotted that seller on ebay. I'll be avoiding them at all costs not only for the faulty badge but the absolutely shite customer service.

If you excuse the lettering that badge would look great on a Lexus .

PM Marlie, if he's in touch with the new owner of his old 335i, it'd really offset those gold wheels a treat .

No, a 5% discount is not good enough.

It's not fit for purpose under the Sales of Goods Act. 30 days isn't a reasonable amount of time for a car badge to last, especially if they've admitted they know of a fault! Cheeky b-stards. Just quote the SOGA and explain that if you don't get a refund or replacement then you'll consider legal action and/or contact trading standards.

What total muppetry, they sold you a faulty product, they should fix it or atleast further discount the cost of a new one....5%? You're having a laugh!

Result..... either a change of heart using the "forums" to change their mind or a mistake on their part.

Thank you for contacting us,
This is Ramon and I handled your email. I apologize for the issue and the incorrect reply.
The last email was according to standard template and I have the same thought that it was not at the right manner as well.
Carbon Fiber emblem for BMW was original produced for car show / photographs and then BM1 ordered the same series for selling on eBay at a very bargain price.
However , we discover that 82mm ( for front usually ) was not being able to stand for long sun heat. The top transparent layer was turning yellow after a period of time.

We had new upgraded version from supplier last month. And I am happy to send you as a free replacement. It?s the 82mm having problem am I correct ?
let me know and I will arrange that.
Please simply reply this message to me .
Sorry again for all the hassles.
Have a great day
.

Good result! The power of forums-especially negative feedback can have a massive impact on a seller.
Was thinking of having a set of these but unsure how they would look on a lmb car.
Let us know how these last...

the others on the wheels, boot & steering wheel are absolutely perfect which made me wonder just what was wrong with the bonnet badge. No hint of yellowing on any of the others.

I'm quite interested in getting a set of these carbon BMW badges, but if the goods are likely to be faulty then I think I might have to leave it for now

From what the seller's response was "sunlight". As the Hood does receive more sunlight then the trunk and wheels. IMO, when you receive the new replacement, put it under a heatlamp for a couple days for quality check and take it to a detailer or painter for paint measurements or the top layer.

Received the replacement for the bonnet and so far so good. If its been modified then it should be fine. I have had the wheels off today treating them to a couple of coats of gtechniq exo & the badges on the wheels are like new so looks like problem solved.

I know you're joking but just a reminder to all that should we get a summer this year sun cream is absolutely the worst thing to get on your paintwork. M'kay...

Most heat lamps are UV, well the ones I've used. That's why I suggested the heat lamp.
