E46 M3 to E90 335 for reliability?

I have an '04 M3 coupe with 102k miles, which I adore, but has been in the shop for all kinds of issues over the last year. I've paid $5k+ in repairs alone. I need something newer and more reliable and a good low-mileage E9x M3 is a little out of my price range.

So I am considering an '09 or '10 M-Sport E90 ... I need it as a daily driver and to be reliable. But I've read a lot of bad about issues with the 335 ... my service guy says it wouldn't be much cheaper to own in the long run (and the M3 is paid off, the 335 wouldn't be).

There is no way I can keep absorbing huge unexpected repairs for the M3. All cars get old and it is starting to need a lot of care. So guys: would a '09-'10 E90 335 with under 40k miles cause less issues? Give me your thoughts.

+1 with the warranty. other than that hpfp and wastegate turbo related issues have been extended. everything else is pretty much plugs, ignition coils, fuel injectors, water pump, suspension parts (as you creep into higher mileage)

both equally unreliable. if you buy 335, must be CPO. Aside from little issues, you might need to new turbos, coilpacks, steering rack (or whatever that goes bad with steering), etc.

If you want reliable car, might wanna think about Japanese performance cars.

Yep, I'll get a CPO. I'm assuming a car that's 5 years newer with 70k less miles has to be less of a headache to live with. I love BMWs and would never do Japanese.

Have my eyes on a one-owner cpo 335 with m-sport and 30k miles for 34k!

I love BMWs too, and would love to get Z4M, but S2000 is much easier to live with and cheaper (performance wise you only loose in acceleration).

Sounds good to me. Also I don't think anyone has mentioned but turbos are warrantied up to 8yrs/82k miles and HPFP is warrantied for 10yrs/120k miles. Only other thing that can be a problem is the water pump.

You may have changed all that needs to be changed on your M3 by now. What is the work you have done ?

Also, the installments for credit are going to be more annually than any amount of maintenance (except for a blown SMG or engine).
