Fixing Lag with a Tune or ECU Flash

So now that it's starting to look like the lag issue is due to the latest firmware leaving the wastegates open at idle - can the tuners fix this with their piggy backs? What about getting hold of earlier firmware and offering a flashing service? Is it impossible to get the code? I guess it would have to be stolen from a dealer or somebody higher up in bmw?

the dinan will fix it because it is based on a pre 29.2 software. the v3 and the jb3 claim to reduce the lag, but have not seen this confirmed yet. another person claims the sprintbooster eliminates the lag.

my plan is to try jb3, eventually, and if that doesn't work, adda sprintbooster.

v3 seriously reduced the lag, as verified on a high resolution digital boost gauge; but its not as responsive as it was pre-29.2

I'm running a V3 and it did very little if anything for lag. The car feels like my old 330i until it gets above 40mph in second. The 2007's I test drove would be spinning the tires if DTC was turned off. Mine doesn't even churp.

The piggies, admittedly, have a hard time countering the 29.2 lag. That's where a true flash differs (i.e. Dinan). I'm anxious to see what the JB3 can do as far as lag reduction, but I'm not holding my breath. I AM holding my breath for Conforti to come crashing onto the scene and offer a 27.4 based map with some nice tweaking to put out 14 psi, all for under $1k. 29.2'ers will be trampling each other to get that and flood fleabay with their piggies.

Yea I would jump on a full ecu flash if it was around $1000.

why are you guys trying to drive up the price of the shark edit (with all the talk of $1g)? jim c said it woudl be $299 - which is how much engine tuning should cost. i hope when it hits the market the piggy's will be forced to lower their price if they want to keep swimming in shark infested waters.

I'm not trying to drive up the price of anything. I don't know what a "shark edit" is but I suppose I'll start looking.

No one's driving up anything. I'm speculating.
First, the $299 is NOT for the compelte package you would need of Shark Edit, merely one component. The total package is closer to $700 for what you would need to get it on your PC, make a map from base code, and then load it on your car. If you only need to get a pre-made map (assume it's "free" from a tuner for this discussion) from someone ELSE who bought the whole kit and wrote a map, then yet, it's less money.
Second, since Jim's prices ($299, etc) do not include a tuned map of his own, I speculated a price bump for his work for a map (IF he even ever makes one for launch!). I doubt he would be giving away maps with the thing.

My car just got updated to the newest software and I did indeed notice the lag that everyone has been talking about. I got rid of it pretty easily with adjusting the 'pre-spool' duty cycle on the PROcede. The new 'Doomsday' maps I'll be posting will have this change and this lag will be history.

God if I wasn't already married I'd propose Seriously I enjoy the V3 once my car gets off its ass and starts moving. Without the lag it would be like an instant, mmm well better not post that

Yeah... it was pretty miserable. The first thing I noticed on the drive home was that responsiveness just after throttle tip-in (during cruise) was gone. And there was some extra lag introduced between shifts as well.

What about including this in the regular maps as well?

TF,

Are you running the remote switch? Also are you running beta or public maps?

The reason I ask is that for awhile I was unaware that if you have the remote switch hooked up, by default you wil be on the LOW boost map. Only by pressing the GREEN or ON switch on the remote will you activate the HIGH boost map. (non beta versions are like this LOW / HIGH maps)

I was happy with what I was feeling until it was brought to my attention that there was at least another 30HP waiting for me.

I understand that Shiv is going to make the map default user selectable so this wont be an issue in the future but thought I would mention it to you just in case.

V3 seemed to improve the laginess over stock. Reduced it, but did not eliminate it.

Glad to hear that Shiv has the newest version and feels the LAG.... I thought he had it on his personal car months ago but I guess it was just others.

Now that he has it on his car the Doomsday maps will be the best they can be !!!!!

Looking forward to the new maps.

I'm running the latest beta and yes I use the map switch to turn on the high boost map.

Shiv can you elaborate more on 1) what this lag feel exactly is like for you [what does just after throttle tip-in mean], and 2) what the spool cycles are that you can adjust to make the lag disappear.
