Yup, this just cured 9 months of aggravation for me in 30 seconds. I bought my 328xi with 5k miles, and it had a lurchy start from day one. I learned later that if I pushed the pedal down further, faster, it would get beyond the "lurchy" bit better than if I pushed the pedal a reasonable distance.

After having done the "reset" there is now noticably smoother acceleration from first contact with the pedal all the way through pushing it down.

MY thoughts on what's going on is that there is probably a pedal travel sensor that learns if you have a heavy foot or a light one, and responds accordingly. The previous owner probably pushed down harder than I do, so for D mode, it required a heavy foot to accelerate smoothly. Now having done the reset, the pedal is far more sensitive to my lighter foot.

Therefore, not sure if this is about the transmission, or the gas pedal, but the reset definitely solved a long standing problem that a dealer software flash could not solve.

So, what you're saying is I should get on the highway with the car in D and push the right petal as far as it goes for 25 seconds and my shifts will be smoother! LOL


(kidding of course..I only usually do this for 20 seconds or until I see flashing lights behind me!)

I just did this in my garage - will drive it in the morning and report results. I did this on my old G35 by just disconnecting the battery overnight. It worked wonders! -TMc

Did it and it makes an obvious difference. I just acquired my 330i last week and it must have been driven by an old lady to and from church. After this simple procedure, I feel like I just significantly upgraded torque. Amazing!

LOL this is not a reset
Its just when you step down on the pedal for 25 seconds...the computer program remembers how heavy your foot is (as in how much gas....how aggresive you drive)
so when you do this process and start the car....its in the program where the computer remembers that you were driving aggresively

so does this work...yes, but only for a short time
unless you do this process every morning

For best effect then, do you have to stamp on the pedal as fast as possible to make the computer think you want max attack mode ?

Presume after the 25 secs you lift off the gas pedal before starting also !

My tranny is jerky and needs re-training.

2 of my friends are BMW techs, they said it doesnt work on the E90s, it works on the other bmw models, which i believe included the x3, 5series, and 7series

For the people who said this works, it is all in your head. Why would you hear a noise when it resets? It's supposed to be a software reset, not a mechanical reset.

Right so I dont know about the tranny reset but i am very interested about the hidden menu, I found it but it wont let me unlock it. When i get to no. 19 and it says lock code it wont let me enter the code, when i push the odo button it goes back to menu 1, any ideas?

my dealer had reset the gearbox for me and the gear change was much smoother. now its gone jerky again and the 25 secs trick never worked for me.
