Selling on the forum

Guys, what is the best way to accept a payment for items in our classified section?

I've used bank transfers for high value items. Buyer sends funds, I see it in my account, send item.

I got caught out once with PayPal with the buyer reversing the transaction after I sent the item leaving me without either funds or the item.

Is requesting a gift only payment being an arsehole? I know that's asking the buyer to put100% faith in me though.

If you pay as a "gift" then the paypal fees are charged back to you (the payer)

I.e. you "gift" £100, the receiver gets £100 but Paypal charge you £105.

When you buy from a seller "normally" the fees are deducted from payee instead.

I.e. you pay £100, but the seller only gets £95.

So when you are BUYING you should not pay as a gift GIFT, but when you are SELLING you should try to get them to pay as a GIFT if possible.

I totally understand this view but I personally wouldn't pay as a gift as you have no come back unless the seller in question had an extremely good reputation on the forums. Obviously it depends on how much money is involved. I would always prefer to meet in person for any forum purchases or sales. Although even this has its risks.

All depends on who you are dealing with. There are some right spunktrumpets out there looking to rip everyone off whilst there are some very good honest buyers out there too.

Best of luck!
