subwoofer replacement advice
I have a 2008 E90 335xi with Logic7 that I have been happy with although the low bass is weak. My wife left a leaky water bottle under the passenger seat for a few days and the sub-woofer is damaged (sounds like a dragon fly is trying to escape).
I called my friendly local BMW dealer and was told that I need 65139143136 which is C$658! Tischer has it for about half that but they want a fortune to ship to Canada. So I am looking for better and/or cheaper options. I did a bit of research here and it seems the Earthquake SWS-8X is well regarded and is (close to?) a drop in replacement. Can I change just the speakers without changing the amp? I think the factory speaker is 2 ohm while the SWS-8X is 4 ohm. If I need to change the amp, how hard is that? I see in the sticky wiring diagram that the connection between the head unit and the factory amp is fiber optic. Is that BMW/HK proprietary or can that easily connect to other amps? Thanks! EDIT: I just found out that there is an SWS-8XI which is 2 ohms Last edited by canderson; 09-02-2011 at 10:20 AM.. Reason: updated info |
