Moving to CA, do I need new exhaust system?

Hi guys,

I will be moving to California from Texas and was wondering if it is necessary for me to get new exhaust system in order to satisfy California's strict vehicle requirements/laws.
Sorry if this is kind of an obvious thing but I simply just didn't find anything specific with my google-fu =/
My vehicle is a BMW 328i 2008 Coupe.
It was first picked up in North Carolina.

Thanks!

Doesn't the new emissions testing just check the engine light + a visual for cats?
I'm no expert.

If its stock then it'll be fine. If aftermarket then it'll be fine as long as the cats are untouched.

I believe that our BMWs are 50 state/California certified. See the link:

Lift your hood and check the label.

As long as you have not removed the cat or other emission items you will be O.K.

as long as the exhaust is a catback (i.e. does't remove any of the original emissions equipment) then your fine. You will need to have the stock air box to pass the visual inspection as well. Nothing can be aftermarket unless it is CARB (California Air Resource Board) approved; in which case it'll have an exemption number on it.

I failed smog today for intake... ca new laws require carb sticker on aftermarket intake. I had to replace with stock to pass.

Like everyone else said, as long as as long as the exhaust is a catback and you have the stock air box or a CARB approved intake, then your ok. Here's a couple of tips for you as well:
1. Check your local paper for smog coupons. Ca does not have set pricing so it pays to shop around.
2. Make an appointment with the local DMV office as it will move you through the lines much quicker than a "walk-in"
