Racing game fanatics will soon have an extra item for their Christmas lists. Fanatec, a German company specializing in input devices for serious gamers, has revealed their BMW M3 GT2 Clubsport steering wheel. What's so special about this steering wheel? It's a dual-use actual steering wheel that is not only a gaming wheel but also genuine steering wheel.

This 350mm steering wheel is compatible with Fanatec's Clubsport base for the Sony PS3 and the PC. At the heart of the base is a quick release system which allows the wheel to be installed and removed instantly.

Fanatec showed off this unique steering wheel at the 25th anniversary celebration of the BMW Regensburg plant. Dirk Adorf, a touring car champ, demonstrated by using the wheel in a BMW 320si WTCC race car and then using the same for a video game demonstration. A video of the demonstration is below.

The M3 GT2 Clubsport steering wheel will be released in December.

It will be good to have a BMW wheel in addition to the Posche ones that Fanatec also sells. They would sell even more of them if they made them compatible with Xbox 360 (Forza)

That WTCC race game (from Simbin I think?) is a great PC game. But I played that game a few times and it made me want a real Bimmer!

I think I will eventually get one anyways, just to support their efforts.

I don't know why they make so many PC and PS3 exclusive devices when the XBOX is the highest selling gaming platform. Half the PS3's out there are just used as a Blu ray player.

i think its more about accessability, most wheels have standard USB connections which can be attached to PCs or PS3s and work just fine. it seems xbox is the problem. its like apple and microsoft and all the compatibility issues between the 2. i also hate how theres console exclusive games, i have a PS3 and play GT5 and i would love to play Forza but im not getting 2 consoles for that.

So only the wheel is new, not the whole box? Fanatec is ok, their cs pedals are great, but the wheels do not compare to the TS T500RS. would be nice to be able to swap wheels out between the two though.

I don't think I'd be able to drive my car with that steering wheel thinking that someone could be using it for their video games.
