Twitter/Tweeting for Business
Chaps and ladies of the business world, is anyone making use of Twitter for Business, and actually making any money out of it?
If so, I'd like to know what you make of it and any helpful hints, what the rules are (unwritten as well as formal) etc. Thank in advance |

I am finding it quite helpful to network with people in the same field. Also good for general chat on new product info, launches, and exhibitions.
Not sure how I personally could make money out of it, but you never know where people might see you and want to use your services. Depends what game you are in I suppose. |

I have used Twatter...sorry Twitter mainly to post new product & service news.
Its worth starting up but you need to keep it up to date so if your time can be better spent more profitable elsewhere then go there instead! |

Im a member of a business network and some folk on there do use things like facebook and twitter, and do recommend them, but cant say Im convinced. That said it matters hugely what type of business you're in. I cant see it working for me.
If you are going to use it you'd really need to keep on top of it and make sure things are updated on a regular basis as that's what people come to expect of these social networking types of things. There's about a million financial advisers on LinkedIn!

We use it, but mostly introduce it to our clients!
How effectively it works for you depends on what sector of work you're in! If the people you want to attract also use it, then it's a brilliant tool! If they don't, it's useless! i.e A retirement home isn't going to benefit from it! BUT, as many people have already pointed out, it's very quick and easy to set up, and requires only a few seconds to update, but MUST be updated regularly! |

It's about connecting with customers. So as above, you need to know your customer.
eg there's a restaurant in edinburgh i'd never heard of called Illegal Jacks. But having been on twitter, everybody who i'm some how connected with raves about them. They haven't spent a penny on marketing but the fact that if i'm in Edinburgh (soon for the fast datsun service) i'll be checking them out, shows it can work. Also my ex used it for her business until she shut it down and has now been hired by a PR firm to be their social media expert and the job pay really well. So there must be money in it. Check out all the PR firms who suggest it to their clients and see what they are doing with it. Personally speaking, it wouldn't work for my business. |

We often advise clients on various options.
Find Linkedin to be pretty lame unless needing new staff but many rate it. Twitter can be great if used properly but you NEED to have info to link to on a blog or similar or they'll be zero content. Google picks up on Twitter now and many are using it to search for stuff. Very hard to measure ROI but it does get your product/services "out there" and for some industrys, is a must have IMO. |

pjs - we don't use it - we just advise on it's use. Got an FB and linkedin page but for the last 3 years, we haven't needed to promote our business at all. It seems to come knocking at the door (metaphorically).
