Yeah I saw that I still can not figure out which part it is.

Is it possible that it is Part 9?

How in the shit did you guys replace the line that goes to the front turbo? Do I have giant-hands, or should I be going at this from beneath?

Thanks again to the OP, and others who have contributed. Just did this not too long ago, cuz I was plagued by 30FF at the track (road course). Before I did this, I was thinking it was the boost solenoids, since I am an '07, at 107K miles. Had done all the other vacuum lines previously, but missed these two behind the oil filter. Did both lines all the way through to the canisters. removed the crappy torn up oem cloth lines, and even eliminated these oem plastic things between the canisters, and the cloth lines:

New silicone lines:

Result? Did a track day yesterday, used to get 30FF at high rpms in 4th, and the 30FF issue has disappeared!

Hoarding and E90Post FTW!
would this leak cause engine malfunction to arise?

Exactly. It has heat resistant mesh around the plastic tune.

The high heat resistant mesh sourounding the high temp vacuum lines which have lasted on average 100 k are the best lines to use according to BMW. The plastic heat resistant vaccum lines are good, but I like to keep mine OEM. Hopefully there is a company out there that is working on some solid ass lines, with a small titanium plate that can fit behind the oil filter...that would be cool.

OEM is 3.5, but it seems people have used 4 as well.

I was getting the half engine light and could tell that I had little to no boost. Did a search on here and came across this tread. Got home last night, popped open the hood to inspect my vac lines and when I grabbed one it just fell apart! replaced them and my car seems like it is now on crack! Great info and I recommend anyone that is over 50k to take a look at these. Thanks OP!!

Guys remember the canister lines that run behind the Oil filter are Tubes with mesh, the remaining are the ones with the mesh to withstand high temps. I changed mine 1 month ago and thank god no issues or codes, the mesh lines had tiny cuts and that was the culprit of underboost.

One question, if you pop off the vacum lines on the 2 passenger side canisters and u hear air gush out, does that mean you have a good Vaacum or should they not release air, and should the car be on?

Thanks!

First time posting here. I've been getting 30FF / P0299 codes for the past coupe of weeks. Happening under load in 3rd or 4th gear and not always at WOT. Driving me nuts! My Bentley manual doesn't have much when it comes to the vacuum lines, or at least I'm not finding it. Found the thread, popped the engine cover and there it was! 6$ later and my car has better and smoother boost than it has had in a while. Thanks for putting the time in and posting!

After a few more maintenance items, I'm going for the JB4.

Fill in my experience and get some possible feeback:

I had my car have a major service to engine , new water pump , thermostat , vanos soleniods , injectors , all the bits known to fail basically...

After first start up the car run great , but after some hard pulls a day or two later , I started getting codes , exhaust fumes low pressure side turbo , rich fuel mix fault , and did find some faults during investigation.

Chargepipe had a section that was leaking , fixed - still getting engine light
Checked vacuum , used a vaccum pump with gauge on canisters , towards wastegate I got a quick -20 psi on both
Through canister and towards vacuum supply I had to pump like a mad man and gave up at 5 or 10 psi , when I pulled hose from canister , I heard the hiss , but it sounded like the hiss traveled towards oilfilter housing , curious if the plastic section for vacuum should be eliminated and use silicone all the way.

Other fault that I found during vacuum test was that the connector by windshield , going to brake booster , that was loose , reattached it and did my vacuum testing.

After this I did a test drive , my boost gauge reads -23 and stops at 0.0 and then half engine light

After I returned , I popped hood and pulled vacuum line from canister , hiss sound.

Any ideas ?

I have my own thread for my issues , try not to soil OPs good thread with my mystery until it is solved

+1 for this fix. 30FF with 1/2 engine light hitting at 4000 RPM in 3rd gear. Replaced these two lines with some Silicone hoses from Verocious and bam, boost! Car feels new again.
