BMW Assist

Hi all,

I just got a letter from BMW to renew BMW assist and of course they want $200 a year to renew.

Now for something I use once in awhile that is a lot coin. But I heard some members was able to get a deal on it.

So can anyone tell me how they was able to do it.

Thinks.

I got a deal where I pay the same full price but my coverage is for 15 months instead of 12... So I guess 25% more product.

I do get this deal since my car can't use Google MyInfo, or Destination Download.

Not worth the $. IMO. I have never used the service from Day 1.

My renewal is also coming up, I was going to call them to see if I could haggle them down a bit.

For me I love it. I don't think I can get a deal since I actually use it quite a bit (mostly for the Google MyInfo - plus I call them a lot to have them send me maps to my car while I'm driving. Love that feature). I doubt they'll give you a cheaper deal without sacrificing service?

I tried to see if they would offer a deal at all but it seemed like they have a fix rate. I still renewed it considering its about $19/month.

Edit: Actually I'm lying. I wasn't going to renew. But the day I called them to inquire about better options I was driving on Gardiner and couldn't get a proper connection when I pressed the SOS button. After a while OPP called me to let me know that help is on the way and whether I'm still on Gardiner. I told 'em I don't need help but they said you contacted BMW SOS and they contacted OPP when they couldn't get in touch with me. I thought that was kind of cool lol.

BMW assist can possibly save on car insurance - don't forget to mention it to your insurance rep

I didn't know that, I will call my rep and see if that is the case.

Yes indeed, having BMW assist, On-star, etc will decrease you car insurance as it acts like a low jack. So it qualifies as a better security system for car and a safety feature. The discount I get from Allstate just about covers the monthly cost of BMW assist.

Really? Allstate gave you a discount for that? I called them, they said its good to have but it doesn't impact the numbers. I mentioned the "stolen vehicle recovery" feature but they didn't care :s

I didn't renew mine Google maps was very useful but that was only thing I used it for. I think it does give some discount for insurance, when I got insured for my car 2 yrs ago they asked bunch of "features" if I have it with my car and I said yes. So far my insurance is still good but they never asked me if I still have BMW assist :s.

I remember that story a few months ago about the guy who went off road on the 407, and died cause nobody noticed the car for something like 5+ hours. Its not a terribly expensive service, i doubt anyone will go broke for it.

The one downside is that apparently you can't have BMW Assist and BMW Live Internet working at the same time. That is what Patrys told me when I contacted him about remote coding.

I think the value, for me, is in the roadside assistance when I switch to non-runflats and have no spare. Plus MyInfo which I expect will be handy as well.

I spoke to my insurance rep today, and they have a list on things that would save you money on your car insurance, and unfortunately BMW assist is not one of them, but the 335is is classed in a lower insurance rate scale then other cars in the same class or level, so I already have savings based on that alone.

I still have time to make up my mine on the BMW assist, no hurry.

Mine is up this month. I used the lock/unlock remote app feature a few times on my iPhone.

FYI haven't downloaded it yet... but could explain why Allstate is offering discount..at least in the States.

Only problem is if your phone gets damaged during an accident....

It's not that much, probably will renew (sigh).

CAA (yeah, I know) offers more or less the same services for half the price, so I'm on the fence regarding renewing my BMW Assist. Not to mention, switching over to CAA will cover my e30 as well.

Decisions. Decisions.

Just spoke to CAA yesterday about discounts after adding on BMW Assist - unfortunately, there are none because the top insurance agencies do not recognize it yet as a "value add" to the car therefore warranting a price change.

I had tried the same with my insurance and was told any manufacturer installed security device, including BMW Assist, was already factored into the insurance premium so no further discount was available

I have a 2009 328i with no navigation, did you guys know if BMW assist can still send address directions to my car w/o nav? I use to have a regal 2011 w/o nav and onstar were able to send directions to my car and i was able to see them on the cluster.

My one year free subscription expired and I didn't bother renewing.

Used it Zero times other then at the dealer when I picked up the car and setup some stuff with the Telephone rep.

I suppose if you want to use BMW Remote it might be useful but until it has the remote start feature, the 200 bucks isn't worth it for me.
