I paid $218 each for two tires, toatal $440 with a couple of wheel weights. I would talk them down on the tire cost, $265 each is excessive. If I had pay 50% of the cost, I would wait until I was closer to 20K to replace them.

Tirerack is $911 fro 4 EL42's + shipping, assume another $60 for installation. BMW cost is $530 for 4 tires installed, plus free rental for the day ~$40, so all in all the BMW deal isn't so bad. I would have preferred to try different brand, but I 'll give these bridgestones another shot. I think you're quoting the price for Conti's above ($169) not EL42's. |

Got my car back today. All 4 tires replaced with EL42's. What a difference, I can actually hear the engine again. I knew the old tires were loud but I didn't think it would make this much difference. Grip is way better too

13800 Miles on the tires, though rear right was a bit newer, probably 10K. |

Nope, the EL42s were $169 ($169*4 = $676) The Contis were $108 The main reason I dislike the deal is A) that I have to pay for anything at all (I don't like paying extra for defects), and B) I'd get the same crap tire once again. but to each their own. I probably won't do this deal, but I hope for each of you that has, that your new Turanzas work out much better than your old ones.

I do agree with having to pay for recall tires especially when I had the problems when there was <10K on the tires. Just because the service bulletin came out in Jan, I missed the 10K free replacement window. I did bring up same tire - same problem potential with the service manager and he did say that if there was anything at all bothering me (I presume he was exaggerating here a bit, but basically meant if the same problem occurs) about the tires bring them back before the 10K cutoff and they would replace again at no cost. There definitely does seem the be a difference in these new EL42's but we'll see how long that lasts... |

Got the car back, all four replaced for free with Conti's.
First impressions: smoother ride overall, grip is back, noise is less. Overall very satisfied, service department didn't even blink about the exchange & gave us a courtesy car. Once again, e90 post info came thru for us! Now the question remains, what set of REAL wheels and tires are we finally gonna decide on?!

Got my car back today from the dealership and they replaced the piece of shit Turanzas with Contis. I got them replaced for only $220 for all 4 of them and I had 23k on them. I made a big stink about the timing of the service bulliten and they worked with me. I was really supprised.
The Contis are great! Night and day as far as the noise goes. I can actually hear my radio instead of my tires. I can't really comment on the grip of the tires but I can surely say that they handle pretty good in the snow. I have to hand it to BMW, they did make it right, even though I did have to pay have price. Good job guys. You have restored my faith in BMW. |

I called my local dealer yesterday, and the check is being processed for reimbursement to me for buying Contis on my own. Yeah, Iknow, checks in the mail . . .

I just called Momentum West in Houston. I could hear the advisor on the phone with the parts department and he was shocked at the price. Bottom line, $900 for 4, and I pay 50%, $450. This is for the 330 tire, 225-45-17. I asked about getting the contis and he said the warrantee is through Bridgestone so I had to get the same junk tire.
Edit: I have 11,000 miles and these tires are louder than the mud tires on my jeep. So sure, I could get 4 new crap tires for $450 that will probably last another 10K miles, or spend a bit more to buy some better tires elsewhere that will last longer. So much for this TSB. Bridgestone and/or BMW surely isn't do me any favors... Robert

Alright guys, I finally made an appointment for tomorrow morning at 8AM. I will tell you what they give me tomorrow.
I hope I get a loaner, cause I'm gonna pick it up Saturday, except I didn't buy the car from them. I know some dealers don't care and others are real anal about this. Can you request any car u want for a loaner if it's available? |

OK...I just got back from the dealer and my SA said he would replace all 4 tires with Contis!!! Thank God, because I really didn't want to go back to those el-42's. BTW I only have 8600 miles on my whip.

I dropped off the car last night since I had to delay going to the dealer a week. My SA knew immediately what I was talking about when I described the "loud tires". I got an X3 loaner even though I didn't buy the car from them (I know some dealers don't). He's gonna call BMW and call me back and tell me what they say about the tires. I have 13,xxx miles. I'll pay 1/2, but only for contis. I'll keep u guys updated.

I've been considering doing the replacement but my dealer will not do Conti's. They claim the Turanza's are redesigned but I'm a little nervous about it. I'm trying to wait it out for a while to see if the problems come back for those that have gone ahead.

Dealer called saying that the tire shop will call back monday afternoon since they aren't open this weekend. They will then call us Monday or Tuesday. So I think I'll be getting my car back mid-late next week.

Anyone know the details to this tire replacement program in Canada? We all know in the US, with less than 10K miles, you get a free replacement and with 10K-20K, you get 50% reimbursed.
What is the exact cut off point in metric units since we don't use miles? |

Now i have a service appointment on Monday. My tires have been extremely loud, but i thought maybe it was just how RFTs were. How has everyone been going about bringing this up? When im checking in at the service desk should i just say something along the lines of "my tires are extremely loud".

I have found the Continental RFT to be cheaper and quieter than the Bridgestones. However, the conti's will not last as long as the bridgestone on overall tread wear.
Right now, the Bridgestones are on backorder and arent being made. Bridgestone is completely redesigning the tire and when the new tires come out, they'll supposedly not have this problem any longer. |
