European air intake mod.

so how does this stack up against the us version bmw performance setup. do not talk about the price difference because i now the bmw performance cost more. I am looking to see which is more responsive.

I was shocked to learn the Afe intake gave us a performance "loss". WTF

It seems the best intake everyone's been able to come up with is cutting out the charcoal filter of the OEM unit and now this European OEM unit?

Does the BMW Performance intake use the charcoal filter or is it replaced as part of the upgrade?

A dyno between the US OEM and the BMW performance intake would be nice.

The us bmw performance intake uses the back part of the stock intake. I think that restricts the flow.

moments.

As for the 'seat of you pants' test, it makes a significant improvement over stock. It gives you more of those 'kick in the back' feelings what we all like so much.

Yeah, supposedly its there to prevent exhaust gases from backtracking through the intake to the outside, or something like that. In my opinion, I think it's a bunch of smog/emissions bs.

Instead of ripping it out, I recommend that you make the switch to a euro box because, in the end, you'll be saving yourself a bunch of headaches.

Take a look at the photos I posted of the old intake and the Euro one, you'll see what I mean. Good luck!

ok to be clear im interested in this mod as well...might be the first thing i do to my new baby(well new preowned baby)...when i click the ecs link you guys posted it says for a 330i...this will fit on my 08 328xi correct?

...uhh... If my dad is still watching this thread, he should be able to point you in the right direction. To my knowledge, the 330i and 328xi cpe have the same engine.

Enjoy your 'new' ride! I also suggest that you get your local dealer to install the performance exhaust to make a much more significant improvement (I did exhaust first, then the intake).

This assumption is based on 30 years of engine experience. If you can add 100% more, in as in a s/c or turbo (16 pounds of boost) you will get roughly 100% more HP. Obviously you need to know where the bottleneck is in the intake tract. Nothing is 100%, but I was showing how one can't expect any more than 5 HP with an air filter change, that is best case scenario, and that is what BMW, Dinan and others claim. 3-5 HP.

assuming you have a 328i... i dont think a simple filter delete is same as a forced induction or make up for one. 335i is totally different car in a similar looking shell from 328i.

but im sure it will be that first step of getting closer to it. either way, any of these small bolt on mods will never get you near the 335i numbers.

all these mods are to enjoy the car a little more with whats given... not to be something else.
