Whatever happened to the petrol-diesel differential? Last year when i bought my petrol motor it was around 6p cheaper than diesel - helped my man-maths no end to justify ditching the boring A4 tractor

Ahh!

I did indeed check my manual out last night. There's a section on how to check via the iDrive but the option is not present on my motor

.

I'm guessing diesel cars have no in-car oil check and that it's all via the dipstick. Checked the level this morning and it looks ok but I might top up 1/4 litre or so just so it's nicely in the middle of the min/max markers.

Before getting my 335d when the price difference was 2-3p between petrol and diesel I had heard that the price difference should dissappear as more and more money was invested in diesel infrastructure to cope with increased demand.

Glad I did as the difference is only 0-1p now.

Didn't Diesel use to be a lot cheaper than petrol? This was before the demand.

Even if you were filling from empty (i.e. a full 61 litres), to clock up £87 the price must have been in excess of £1.42/litre, I don't think the prices have ever been that high in the UK have they?

72 quid to fill the Rs4 yesterday...only because the BP ultimate pump wouldn't work.

works out at 22.24 mpg which compared the BigDs average of 40+ is different league.

would I go back to diesel not on ya nelly.
Diesel is the dementor of driving, sucks all the life out.

I don't smoke and rarely drink so this is my vice for now.

The amount tax paid compared to the money spent on roads is way more criminal than PMs expenses

It was only 5 years ago (ish) that petrol reached almost £1 a litre and so there were blockades and slow convoys all over the country in protest...

Let's hope Cameron's favourite tipple is petrol and that he decides to reduce duty and VAT ???

I reckon we might start seeing the Electric car pick up in popularity over the next 5 - 10 years or so.......I can feel the tide building.

A top GM employee recently stated that the petrol engine would be no more within 10-15 years for "small" cars. Sounds about right.
Although another way to look at it, is that the current crop of hybrids and electric cars will be seen as the "model T Ford" in years to come if that makes sense.

My 325i is doing 29MPG average.

We all need to buy huge thirsty petrols top reverse this trend.

(PS The 335i long term average is about 29mpg, I have seen 40mpg on an A road run, quite surprised)
