Does maintenance start at first in service date?

Did a quick search but couldn't find anything...

Does the 4 year free maintenance start after the first in service date or when the car is purchased?

Also, does it matter if its a CPO?

edit: hmm..seems like the in service date is what starts the warranty unless a dealer punched it in early. Anyone know how to check in service date?

I ask the questions you're afraid to ask.

The in-service date has a pretty squishy definition but in general is when the car is either first reported as sold by a dealer or when it is actually first registered - whichever comes first.
