why not have a free trial flash from dinan?

Apr, revo, giac all have trial flashes for audi/vw/porsche that last a few hours.
they all offer switching methods you can go from 91,93,100 and back to stock
in a matter of seconds on your own. a fully loaded ecu flash cost around $1000.
the customer gets to drive around and desides if he likes it.
if he does not like it the car automatically goes back to stock.
how come dinan does not do this?

Labors expensive and there's ALWAYS a chance of locking the ECU when flashing.

they are actually reflashing the entire ecu with APR so there is more chance of danger.

ecu's are cheap you know you can get used ones from junkyards pretty cheap and use immobilizer defeat code to use them in your car.

I think the bmw folks are just buying the tech and do not really understand the core code (ie disassembled, etc). The guys at APR are actually hardcore nerd graduates who like cars. They can spout off assembler code from any ecu they've touched.

I think most of the tuners like Dinan just buy their core technology from Upsolute or someone in europe (germany probably) and do not spend the time to fully disassemble it.

It's one thing to buy winols and maybe a program to get in using obd-2 port. It's another to write code to switch maps using the cruise stalk (software based); defeat immobilizer; delete codes (ie rear o2 check with readiness on).

I'm just using dinan as an example; i do not know their method but that is what It appears to be like so take it with a grain of salt.

go google hptuners and see what the GM folks have. it will blow you away. it's quite fune to tune everything ; delete all codes you don't like; reprogram the transmission to shift where you want it to (auto);etc for $400 with the ability to share tunes all day long.

its like that vaporware sharkedit that we'll never see. I'm sure the dinan guys will go pay him a visit before they let that into the public. Send tony over lol.

Agree. The Noelle-tune password-protects the ECU. Will I be able to access the ECU using Shark-Edit to save the current and try Shark tunings ?

Thanks,
Eugen

How do you lock an ECU? Flashing is as simple as rewriting the entire non-volatile ram. Unless you are speaking of a new material science break through like the self destructing dvd, you can always reformat the entire memory.

Not only that, but I bet even this "trial" Dinan flash would void the drivetrain warranty, maybe for good.

Should you decide NOT to purchase the Dinan flash, your warranty could be gone.

Because there isnt really a chip to remove.

They arent socketable ECUs anymore.

Pretty simple, It tries to read something that is unreadable. Weather that be a damaged variable, line of code, or an adaptation. Dont worry If you lock your ECU your car will go so nuts that youll be calling the dealership anyways.

so you are saying there is no surface mount AM29F800 or larger flash memory on the circuit board? i didn't say socketable. There's a reason they make smd heat guns..

Heh, I'd be careful making that assumption, Star...Jim Conforti's been a BMW tuner for a loong time...have you not seen or heard about any previous iterations of the Shark Injector? It's pretty much for BMW what all the really inexpensive OBDII stuff is for GM and whatnot...inexpensive power brought to the masses.

OT, I don't see Dinan's need to offer a trial version - they are right now the ONLY ones to have decrypted the ECU - no need.

And they could always have map-switching or trial versions as a hole card in the sleeve. Not sure we'll get the cool cruise control switching like with APR, though...
