Sirius Setup

Alright guys... just bought the wife a new explorer and it came with SiriusXM. Now I WANT IT... in the car.

What is the best aftermarket solution, and is there a best practice for hook up. I remember back in the day they hooked up fm modulators thru the antenna hook up.

I want to avoid the aux cable option.

What year is your 335i? It might be possible to add (retrofit) the Sirius tuner. Otherwise the aux cable would probably be your cleanest (ie. best sounding) solution.

Sorry... 2010 E90. The OEM tuner is a bit out of my budget... parts were $800 + when I priced at the dealer.

in my old maxima i bought the radio and car dock and used double sided tape to stick on my dash and just ran an aux cable...i never even ran the antenna outside just had it hid under the dash and put it at the corner of the windshield...worked like a charm..

What about a carpc?

I'm in the process of setting one up in my car. I have the old CCC nav and it is painfully slow and doesn't have that many features.

I'm using a TVandNAV2Go unit to get video on my OEM iDrive screen and a HP mini laptop.

If you have an old computer and get a touchscreen ($200-300), and a sirius usb module ($100-$150), you will have sirius and a huge upgrade. If you don't have nav, this is also a good solution.

I'll be using my carpc for HD/FM radio, Sirius, Nav, Music, internet/email etc, and V1 integration. The TVandNAV2go also supports a back up camera which I have been wanting for awhile now.

Only get the CarPC if you aren't suicidal, but you've got a lot of free time and you've been thinking about giving it a try (the suicidal part, I mean).

Best bet is the stock unit for Sirius IF your car is prewired(you don't state your MY anywhere, so it's probably oold enough to be prewired - pre-2009). It's not cheap, but you can find some tuners for sale on the Classifieds.

But what do you think of the new Exploder? Been thinking about one for the family...

Explorer is AWESOME… I’ve been trying to figure a way to get this on the forum so thanks for asking 

If you a gadget guy… this is your truck. Let’s see: Wifi(yes, the truck is a hotspot), Nav, XM, BT. Power lift gate, heated cooled seats, power outlets for the kids, power fold third row seat, remote start, back up camera. Capless gas tank, hidden keypad access. 7 inch touch screen, blue tooth audio.
Ford Sync is insane… you can check your email, weather, sports, stocks all right there on the screen. Inputs for USB, AV, and SD Cards. You can talk to the car and tell it to play a song on your ipod.
Really smooth ride. If I have one gripe, this aint no HEMI. It does however get really good gas mileage. Quality, I would give it slightly above average. Lots of plastic inside and out. Even though it looks small, it’s actually pretty big. Kinda feels like your driving the bus.

If you have a smartphone you could get the SiriusXM app and just plug it into your aux in port.
