what do you need to install alarm in e9x?

my car didn't come with the oem bmw alarm, what will I need to install it? just the oem alarm module? (and coding of course) but in terms of hardware what else will I need besides the module?

You need the alarm kit that includes module, siren, hood switch, and programing.

Just ordered it from circle bmw. Best price around and received it in one day. I'm going to install it then have it coded.

Yes sure. The alarm was $241 plus $13 FedEx shipping. It seems that's where most people acquire it from based on various DIY's on the site. Great customer service and shipping. Coding it at the dealer should be an hours worth of service.

Well my independent was going to charge $147 to install and code the alarm. Since I will install it myself since it is plug and play, they cost should be around $100 or so. It depends on whether or not you go to the dealer or an independent. If you are comfortable doing the install, just call a few shops and find the cheapest option for coding. I just bought a new set of wheels, so I wanted the alarm mainly for the tilt feature and also the motion sensor. Some peace of mind. Hope that helps.

Don't forget to check your cars production date. Anything built after 4/09 I think will not be compatible. They stopped making it pre wired after that build date.

I got this info from Tischer when I tried to order one for myself.

Soooo my build date IS 4/09....How can I tell if I can do this?

And what are the benefits of the alarm? Does it have sensitivity adjustments where when people get close/touch the car it will beep at them and stuff?

It's actually 3/09 for compatibility. Check out this link and read the description.

I am not too sure what function it has as I personally was trying to get one too.

check your vin at an online decoder, here is one

http://www.rubmw.ru/vincode/eng/

my car had as one of the items listed

S5GAA ALARMANLAGENVORBEREITUNG Preparation alarm system

If the issue is that they deleted the alarm prep, then if you have the above it should work.

If BMW went to a different anti-theft system after the break date then I guess the above is irrelevant. Does anyone know?

The main reason I got the alarm was that from reading the owner's manual it implied that I could roll up the windows and close the sunroof by holding the lock button on the keyfob if the car was equipped with the alarm system - but it doesn't actually do that :/ Guess I need to find someone who's good with coding...

Tischer has the whole kit for $265 and free shipping and I believe they're currently running a promo until the end of the month for an additional few bucks off... getbmwparts.com

Hah, I hate the "cool beeps" but as I understand it if you hit the lock button twice you disable the motion sensor so I left the beeps on so I have confirmation that the car is locked... old habit from driving a POS Chevy Impala company car, I would hit the "lock" or "unlock" button about five times when leaving or approaching the car... and I still lost count of the number of times I damn near ripped a fingernail off on those stupid flappy paddle door handles because the doors still didn't unlock @#$%$%#@#$5

Thank you sir. So it sounds like 350ish if you DIY the install...I don't see a need for it now but perhaps in the future if I get wheels for the car. The tilt feature would be worth it IMO. Thank you sir!

No problem. I hate it when someone asks another what they paid, and they state to PM them like it is confidential information. Just make sure the car is pre-wired for the alarm.
