Whats the small rad directly behind the coolant rad

Is it an oil cooler?

I am wondering if I need to add one to my car because I do not have one in my fender. I have a 08 6AT With the Sport option.

If you have a 2008 with the sport package then I'm 99.99% sure you have an oil cooler. All sport package cars came with oil coolers even in 07, if I'm not mistaken. BTW I have no idea what rad your talking about....

Sportspackage oilcooler is located in the wheel well , you see it if you have it , look in front of passenger side front wheel.
The transmission oilcooler / heat exchanger is on bottom of the radiator

I think OP is askin for the small cooler behind radiator , in the middle of radiator.

I dont remember , I thought it was for steering .

Or it could be this AC condenser

didnt realize the steering cooler was set up that way for E92, on my old BMW they had serpentine piping to cool it, and the AT had a smaller cooler in front of the main radiator (where our intercooler is, I can see why it is not that way now)

I believe the oil cooler is included on cars equipped with the OEM 18" wheel package and increased top speed limiter.

I think that rule only applied to us XI owners and I thought all RWD with sport package had it. I might be wrong

You need the 18" wheel + increased speed limiter to get the oil cooler, on the coupes that meant just having ZSP, but on the sedans you had to make sure and have the 18" wheel option (same with AWD coupes).

The exception is some early coupes with ZSP and auto tranny didn't get the OC...those were the ones that were able to get a retrofit from BMW.
