Passenger headlight higher then drivers side?

i just noticed the other night that my passenger side headlight is a bit higher aiming then my drivers side?

i also was looking at the top of the headlights with the hood open and the passenger side says " 1.0%only ecu" or something. the drivers side does not say this.

it's for the oncoming traffic. all cars are set up this way from the factory. it's the opposite for right hand drive cars - japan, australia, etc

I noticed mine does this too, the other night. It was starting to annoy me cause I like my headlight to have a perfect vertical plane

It is to avoid blinding oncoming cars and also to better illuminate roadside hazards. This might help paint a picture:

Oh, and BTW, the passenger side headlight is not aimed any higher, it is the beam cutoff pattern from both lights. Generally, you should have a beam cutoff pattern like ___/ ___/ if you were to pull up to a wall or a garage door. The driver's-side headlight overlaps the shorter portion of the passenger-side light at about the midline of the car, as you can see in the diagram I posted.

You can change that by by raising the headlights manually but its really annoying and dangerous to oncoming traffic if you do it. I think if you search for headlight height/leveling or manually adjust headlights you should find something about the manual adjustment.

ok so i lined up the passengers side(higher line/lever,the one the dealer changed) to line up and level up with the drivers side beam(the lower one, the one from the factory never touched) so now they are even and lined up.

Why would you do this? The passenger headlight is supposed to be higher than the drivers as others have said. You have effectively reduced the field of view of your headlights. Lets say you're on a dark 2 lane road and an animal is ahead on the right shoulder. You will not see him soon enough now.

Thanks, Mike.

can you prove this and take a picture of your lights agnist a wall or anyone for that matter?

i was at the dealership today and both headlights seemed straight with eachother.
but again it wasnt agnist a wall.

when i was driving my passengers side was lighting up signs from a mile away!! and i can see my lights were going into people rear view mirrors from about 2-3 car lengths away.

please if you can post some pics, i will post pics of where i have put my lights now. thanks alot

i guess this answer my question, his beam is leveled, my car is now like this. from what i have been reading further into, the passengers light has a different pattern of where the light goes but is aimed at the same level.

it goes along with what 'icedog 16' has said.

Why doubt myself and others. My 328 and my previous car a Cadillac CTS both have the drivers headlight aimed lower than the passenger. Others here say this is to keep from blinding oncoming traffic with modern headlights and this is true. If you are unsure have the dealer set the headlights to the original specifications.

Thanks, Mike.
