62k worth it for a 2012 X3?
Hello everyone - I know this is the E9X forum for Canada, but since I have a lot of respect for a lot of contributors on this forum (good intelligent practical people on this forum) I wanted to ask your opinion.
I recently got a quote for 62k for a 2012 X3 28i loaded. Just wanted peoples thoughts if this was over-priced. I know its a BMW so it will always be more expensive..but just wanted peoples thoughts who've moved from an E9X to a X3 or another CUV/SUV like maybe a Q5. Also how has your experience been with a X3? Do you miss your old E9X? is the X3 practical? Did you find you got value for your money? I know these are open ended questions with no real or right answer...I guess just looking for lots of opinions on the X3. Looking for varying perspectives! thanks! |

New X3 is really nice, i like it alot. But the price not so much.
Ideally this is competing with the Merc GLK350. To be honest with you, the MERC is a nice vehicle for the price. Cant really go wrong with it. Driving dynamics and looks are all relative to the driver. at the price point of the X3 its a tough buy for me. Even the X1 is expensive.

We are taking delivery of an almost fuly loaded X3 28i in next few days and the price you quoted including taxes seems to be about right. They start at about $42K and end up at $53k pretty easily (before tax).
We looked at a CPO 2009 X5 and from an operating cost (fuel, insurance) point of view it made more sense to go with the X3 since it was priced pretty close to the same (within $1K). In addition, more interest was shown in my trade-in once we decided to go with X3. |

62K for X3 28i? Wow that is expensive. I'm thinking of getting a GLK and as one member said it is a nice vehicle. The price is good although it doesn't drive like a BMW. Are you set on the X3? Have you looked at other brands?

I dont like the X3 at all.
I was given a turbo X1 while my car was being serviced, and I while I did not like it aesthetically, it handled like a dream, and had some impressive power under the hood. If I was shopping for the price range of an X3 (meaning I could not afford an X5), I would look towards something like the MDX. Love the MDX, and its really reliable as well. wow that's a lot, you can get a 335xi for less, i believe.
autoblog just reviewed the X3 and also concluded the add-ons really inflate the price: http://www.autoblog.com/2011/09/12/2...ive28i-review/

We also looked into the Infiniti and Lexus. A demo (9000 km) Lexus RX350 was in the same price range but no "free" service/oil changes.
Also they offered me a ridiculous low offer on my trade-in. |

Murano - loaded costs 54k RDX - about 52-54k I think Q5 - forgot what I was quoted but a little bit more then 62k I think..also Q5s are super high in demand - but BMW claims the X3 is just as high in demand. Still need to look at Infiniti FX35 though I though that was more expensive - thought it was high 60s but I could be wrong...the EX35 matches the X3 I believe... |

Personally. I wouldn't bother with Murano or RDX.
Have you considered the MDX? Acura has great deals on them right now. If you pay cash you get about $10k off MSRP (plus taxes). Not 100% sure if this deal is still on but it is quite attractive considering the resale value of MDX and you get tons of space. |

personally i don't think thats worth it.
if it was the 35i then maybe....but for a 28i it doesn't seem worth it...i'd rather have a Q5 or a couple year old X5

Thanks everyone for the input....its 62 k here in Ontario since we pay HST (as you Albertans only pay 5%)....the x35i is about 5k more.

I love the X3 but $62K is too much. Look at your wants and your needs. Nothing will drive like a BMW - but for that price you can get a Certified Pre-Owned X5, X6, X5 Diesel...
If you're not stuck on another BMW, they really did a great job with the Ford Edge for 2011/12. The Jeep Grand Cherokee is also another option that can save you $20K and is more trail capable and may drop less in value percentage-wise. I personally love the RDX but I think it's in need of a redesign and some refinement. The Volvo XC60 is beautiful. You have options...

i personally really like the x3. my friend recently purchased one, with the 4 cylinder turbo engine. the car itself is fantastic, very nice ride, the engine is strong, but not as smooth as the last 3.0L inline 6.
62 after taxes would be high for the old model x3, but the new one is closer to the size of the first gen x5. however, i'd also see if you can get the q5 for less since its been in the market for 8 months.

also, is the 28i the new 4 cylinder turbo or is it the old 3.0L straight 6? cuz if its the new I-4 turbo then i'd say go for it cuz i've heard thats a great engine (not that the old 3.0L I-6 isn't)

For North America markets, the X3 28i is the same N52 engine as the 328i (240hp)... the X3 35i uses the same N54 engine as the 335i (300hp).
Make sense??? In Europe they drop the 28i and offer a diesel (20d) version instead Last edited by DeltaBMW'r; 09-14-2011 at 04:19 PM.. Reason: Corrected engine code |
