I looked and felt around for welds or anything abnormal besides the clamps and didn't come up with anything.

Car is completely stock.

One thing I must say is the exhaust note sounds much better than the E90 did. Similar tone just louder. Both had the exhaust flap unplugged for extra loudness.
E90 's come stock with a dual resonator thing a mah gig and I don't think the pipes are really connected inside the resonator either. E92 doesn't have that res, I think it's an xpipe. Kinda weird that there are clamps in general.

I had an e90 335i before my e92 335i as well, stock e92 was definitely a bit louder and aggressive. Sedans have a resonator instead of an x-pipe that coupes have. You probably have stock mufflers that were placed back with clamps. But, an easy way to find out if you have performance exhaust is to see if your muffler tips are single wall 3" diameter outlets or 2.5" double wall outlet. If it's still hard to tell, just post a pick and we'll tell you right of the bat.

Only pre LCI E90's and Xdrive have midpipe resonator. LCI E90's have the xpipe. I learned this the hard way! Bought a used pre-lci e90 dp back exhaust off fellow forum member and did PE MOD besides replacing resonator with xpipe. When I went to swap the exhaust, I noticed my 2011 e90 had the xpipe!

Here's a video with midpipe resonator, decatted dp and secondaries, and PE MOD mufflers: www.youtube.com/watch?v=z0TswCSpnCc

Just got done with mine. Local shop in national city/san diego. This time its wrapped with exhaust wrap on both sides. I only wrapped the one straight to the exhaust outlet both sides. All packing back in. Sounds like my remus exhaust.
This way its totally reversible.

The lci e90 has a resonated xpipe. At least the ones with n54 engines, don't know if they changed anything for n55

Hey guys, I bought an already modded e90 exhaust from a member, the question I have is I have a e92 and the muffler was originally from a e90, I heard the e90 tips were shorter, is that the only difference? and can I just swap my oem tips to the e90 muffler? or is the difference in length in the pipe?

Thanks!

Question. when I cut off the muffler, what type of clamp do I use on it to put it back on? Ya I know I could weld it back on but is there a suitable clamp?

My tips didn't just come off.. They had to be dissected and cut off basically.. Have an 08 e90 335xi..some models just pop off, some are riveted

How much have you guys been paying to have this done? I haven't got a single quote under $450 to just mod the mufflers.

Do you see any rivets? You could also try a rubber mallet if you don't. Mine was tighter than tight so the shop just told me the tips would be destroyed in the process so that he could save as much exhaust pipe. I got eBay tips 35 a pop 2.25 diameter no pics online yet

Can they just not cut it off at the pipe right before the tip? and weld it on? and I will check if it has rivets once I get home, I just assumed they were welded on.

They wanted as much straight pipe as possible to get better fitment, just what they told me. I wasn't going to argue with the man, but yeah, I don't see why you couldn't just cut before the tip and weld tips in whatever angle you wanted.

Dude did a good job so I'm happy.

Finished the PE Mod

This thread led me to buy an extra exhaust locally so that I could do this at my leisure after work. I work in an Autobody shop so the tools, lifts, and welders made things considerably easier.

It began with cutting the the perforated pipe side of the mufflers open on both sides so that I could weld all the way around. Exhaust wrap would probably be easier but I hadn't welded in a little while so I didn't mind.

After cutting it open and cleaning the edges I bought 1, 18" x 2 1/2" Exhaust pipe from advance auto. I cut it to size and used a $20 pipe expander from harbor freight to expand the ends I needed to a snug fit. I welded the pipes in then sprayed them with a high heat flat black paint. The doll hair / filler went back in and everything was welded shut.

The lid welds aren't pretty buts it's been a while. And it's under the car so it's ok. After that I sprayed the entire muffler with the same high heat paint to try to protect the welds a bit. Finally I let my friend weld up the exhaust tips I bought off eBay because he wanted to.

So far I'm very happy I did it. The extra burble and overall louder and deeper tones are great. I'll try to get an audio clip up soon.

Also my stock exhaust with 69k miles is available for sale if anyone in CT is interested. Or I can do the PE Mod to them for someone too.

Thanks, and I got them off eBay. The seller was first. racing. I cut the old ones off with a sawzall about 1/2 back from the beginning of the stock tips. Then I measured how much I wanted the new ones to stick out and used a compound miter saw to cut off the excess.
