Got car interior Detailed & now i m gettign the battery low sign :-(
Hi Guys,
I got my car interior detailed today by a detail specialist at my place, before detailing the car i told him to switch the interior light off as it has no kill switch. He said he will do that but after i got the car back now i m getting battery icon on my dash I spoke to him later & he said while detailing he had to open the door & close them frequently as in my driveway there is less space for people to pass by if the doors are open so i guess the inside light kept switching on by itself? damn bmw there should be a kill switch for the inside lights, he said its common with these cars & a small drive should solve it. now what should i do get the battery checked by bmw or get it charged? Thanks.. |

How old is your battery? They don't last forever (4-5 years seems about average, so if your car is an 06-08 and you are on the original battery you should start thinking about replacing it).
A short drive may help, and yes, leaving the door open probably drained it, especially if it's an older/weaker battery. You can have it load tested by a dealership or competent indy shop.

Long drive with speeds over 45 miles an hour, no stop and go. Or the easier route, battery charger. My car sits Sunday- Wednesday every week and every once in a while I throw the charger on. 12/07 build and the battery is still good.

Get it checked out. I'm betting it's still good so just charge it up.

ctek 3300 seems to be standard
they have a new one called the 4.3 if you want something more 7003 I think . Also I thought the lights were just a small part of the current draw its all the other electric modules that are the problem. Someone said there was a shop mode that puts it to sleep when your working on it . I wonder does anybody know how to turn that on. Last edited by ctuna; 01-11-2013 at 01:48 PM.. |

What he said ^ I use a Shumacher charger I got from Walmart. It has 2, 8, and 12 amp modes. Very convenient for maintaining or emergency jump starting.

The Advanced Battery Charger from BMW is reasonably priced. It's the same thing as the DelTran Battery Tender Plus GEL. 2006+ Bimmers use GEL cell-type batteries.

To charge the car by using the alternator, just drive the car for 20 minutes or so at highway speeds....
To use a battery charger...I like the battery tenders that are automatic...in other words they shut off when they sense the battery is charged. No need to spend more than 50.00 on a really nice unit!...also, dont let the charger sit on the carpeting while charging, it may get a little warm...a piece of cardboard will do, or floor mat.... Just what One said, push the interior light switch & hold it until the lights go out. That will kill the lights inside the cabin & reduce the battery draw when the doors are kept open.

I never knew that. That's very useful to know during my car washes. But what light switch?
