Pete, WDN's are weekly departmental notices now sent by e mail. I only read the vacancies TBH. One recently for the PM's office - don't think so. I've currently got FA in relation to an IFA.

Very good Gordon, I could think of others, but modesty forbids.

Good point, I don't think I've ever met one that isn't pushing one particular product. If they were "Independant" they would all say the same but thay don't.

I would question that, FSA rules are very stringent. The vast majority of complaints actually arise from tied agents not IFAs. I would not necessarily expect them all to say the same. They should cater for the circumstances of each client; ie age, sex, attitude to risk, other investments in place, overall financial aims etc etc. I am not defending them, but the naiviety of the vast majority of people when it comes to financial planning never ceases to amaze me.

I nearly went it alone when it came to setting up my pensions and investments, but I have a lot riding on them and do not have the time to be constantly monitoring and changing, hence I have put my faith in an IFA.

The FSA are a disaster.

The Financial Services Act is a joke.

Most of the tied or IFA's I have seen are rubbish.

The life companies are totally crap. You need the 40% tax relief to make up for their incompetence.

You also needed the dividend tax credit to provide any kind of growth in the fund and thanks to that fat, smug, inept tool, Gordon Brown, this has been removed.

A low cost SIPP is the only way to go.

I heard that he was one of those Polish immigrants.

I also heard that they were all going to move to Essex and start setting fire to peoples houses.

It's not like the old days ... etc

I'd suggest you seek proper advice for an IFA, not from a BMW forum, the truth is no one can say if a pensions going to be good for you, it's all prediction.

There is no 'magic' right answer when it comes to financial decisions and in my experience most people who think they know it all just don't.

If you do see an independant financial advisor, bear in mind that he can't predict the future.

Also remember that if he really was a sh*t hot financial whizzkid he wouldn't be wasting time talking to you for a few quids commission here and there, because he would be too busy driving his speedboat round his tax haven, counting his millions and shagging bond girls.

Don't underestimate your own intuition and intelligence, try to find out as much as possible from the experts then take your own advice.

Especially if they happen to reside at 11 Downing Street, W1.
