Bandimere drag strip this Saturday April 12

Denver guys,

Anyone up for a few runs at Bandimere this weekend? It's $35 for a full day, test and tune, they call it.

I'm not a big drag strip guy, but I'm curious how we'd fare up here at 5k feet. It's Saturday, all day. I'm thinking about heading over around 9am and staying until lunchtime.

Should be a blast! Anyone interested?

I might make it on the 12th, but I am definately going to the Day Test on May 16th. That one is a little more expensive ($85 for the full day).

This is drag-noobie question. The bandimere site says you need the following to race the 1/4 mile. Do our cars have these? If not, I assume they are pretty simple to install. Anyone know for sure?

"
I have a street car. What do I need to come out and test or race?

The basic items needed to pass tech inspection for the typical street car include good tires, a battery tie-down, radiator overflow catch-can, operable neutral-safety switch, seat belts, and a valid state driver's license or NHRA competition license is required for all participants."

Saturday test??? Brutal. Sounds like either medical boards or law boards.

For your car, all you need is a helmet.

Its my Professional Engineering (P.E.) exam. 8 hours, I have been studying the past month for it. I mean what else would I rather be doing on a Saturday then sitting in the National Western Complex taking an exam .

And yes, you will need a helmet if you are running in the 13's which with your mods you should be easily doing, if not dropping into the 12's hopefully. I don't know how much the altitude will be affecting times though.

Me and a buddy are thinking of starting up a car club so that we can race at the club clash drags. I will let you know how this goes if anyone is interested.

DrEvil, if you want to go, PM me.

I'm going with a buddy in a E55 AMG. He's a big autox and track guy, so I'm sure we can scrounge up another helmet.

I definately cannot go tomorrow: need to get alignment done, and the drop on my car is too severe - so I have to take it back to MAC for adjustment.

Thanks for the offer.

This is the first day of the season, right? I'm guessing it'll be horribly crowded but hopefully not as bad earlier in the day. What time does it open?

I was looking at the website JT and it doesn't provide much for times of the gates being opened. I'm thinking of heading up there and leaving my place around 8am tomorrow. Should we meet up somewhere?

I called and they said it opens at 9 AM. Want to meet there at 9?

So this was my first time drag racing and it was fun but a little disappointing. The track was a lot slicker than I expected. On my first run, I got pretty sideways before I realized I needed to let off the gas to avoid crashing into the wall (DSC/DTC were off). I got a 15.6@101 and got beaten by a Civic!

Next I tried a more conservative launch and got a 14.7@103. Then I tried a faster launch with DTC on and got a 14.8@103, and my last run was 14.7@104 with DTC off again. I just never could hook up very well. My best 60' was 2.547 (2nd run).

Traction issues aside, I'm not too convinced that the Dinan tune is performing all that well at this altitude. forza1976 has the SSTT in his 335xi seems and he ran a 13.7 today (were you on 91 octane?). We've played around on the street a little too and I was never able to pull on him, even from a roll.

We saw a Barrique Red E90 and a Space Gray E92 today -- were those any of you guys?

Another question: I was redlining in 3rd when I finished. Should I have been in 4th? I figured it would cost me too much time to shift given that I was so close to the finish.

Thanks for posting the results!

Looks like you were definitely having a problem putting the power down. Do you have the all-seasons or summer tires? When temps are in the 40's like they were today, the summer tires are basically useless unless warmed up. Those 60' times are definitely not helping your times. How were you launching? You shouldn't shift unless you absolutely have to as it will only hurt your times, but at the same time you aren't at your maximum hp above about 6500rpm and should probably shift.

I'm guessing the space gray was 335trackaddict, don't know who the barrique red is though, haven't seen one of those around.

JT, don't get too down... First time at the track is always tough, I have been there so many times, all the high school drags and the test nights that I did. It all comes down to just getting the launch correct. With your trap speed you will wipe me and I bet you get mid 13's. I was on straight Safeway 91 octane, gotta keep with my 10 cent per gallon discount.

I weighed the car after my last run and with me in it, it was amazing a solid 3900 pounds with about 1/4 tank of gas.

As for what gear, I was just about 6800 rpm at the finish so. I would hope you don't have to hit 4th as that will take time away from the ET. Was damn fun, sorry that I had to leave so early, Melissa was cold and I needed to get her home.

335TrackAddict, sorry that we missed you. We saw your car but didn't see you run at the track. What were your results?

I was on Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 summer tires yesterday (265/30/19). I know the temps weren't helping so hopefully I'll do better when it warms up.

I revved up to about 2k when I launched, except for the 2nd run when I started from idle. The first time I just floored it immediately since I can get away with that on typical asphalt. In the subsequent runs I tried to modulate the throttle based on how much traction I thought I was getting. My tires were totally silent when they slipped so determining traction was hard too.

I definitely have lots of learning to do but it's kinda hard when you have to wait an hour or so between runs. Might be nice to go some weeknight next time.
