DIY: 335i Exhaust Sound Mod. Better, and even easier than golf tee mod.

OK I know I am not the first to do this, someone had to clue me in, but instead of plugging, crimping, or otherwise disconnecting the vacuum line under the car, just unplug the actuator in the trunk in front of the drivers side tail light. I was a little unclear as to how this works, but it's dead simple, easily reversible, and doesn't involve digging under the car. Win-Win!

So a big thanks to whomever it was that clued me in... I like the sound of the dual exhaust all the time without the bypass, but I also like being able to quiet it down if I am going on a long interstate drive... So here's a Barney Style Step by step to a better exhaust sound on demand. :rocks:

--------ETA: Perform at your own risk, Myself and many others have had no ill effects, but you never really know.---------------

Just that freaking easy... 10-15 seconds if you take your time... No Ball bearings, no crawling under the car, just dead simple and sounds great...

i think the ecu records this as a fault in the computer and saves it even tho it wont show up on the dash..

OK. Works for me, it can record it to it's silicone hearts content. I had no codes on the dash, all systems check OK. So I'd say we are good to go. it can record that fault all it wants.

My only concern would be if there was some emission device failure or something similar and it traces back to the actuator.

Far as I know it does not. 335s only I think.

You know I am sure that the ECU does record this as a fault. But I wonder if it really matters?

Aside from obtaining the 7/32 ball bearing, the Golf Tee mod appears faster, imo. Both, of course, are super quick. I'd prefer the clean ECU, also.

Nonetheless, thanks for the good instructions.

You know, I wonder if it'll show a code when it's done the other way? I mean it's still rendering a piece of the car NON-Functional...

the 325 and 328 don't even have this valve.
it's nothing but sound dampening.

the actuator he's unplugging controls the vacuum that controls this valve.
