I use it every few months, and although BMW recommends it for higher mileage cars, I have been using it since 30K miles. I have been getting 26.8 mpg, but I drive like a grandpa. So I dont know if there is any relation to the additive. But I think it is good maintenance, you never know what crap gas stations pump into your tank.

The crap gas stations pump into your tank is the same crap they get from the refineries; i.e., even they don't know what crap they get. Anyway, if you happen to get craps in your tank, the Techron fuel additives still are not to cleanse your fuel.
