Change Your Oil!!!
OMG, the oil was black and dirty. At only 8,000 kms too. The oil filter housing was thick and yucky as well.
Aside from finding a tool to remove the oil filter cap, the oil change is just as easy as in my old E46. Best price for oil is at Bimmersport in Mississauga. I think it was $36 for a 5L jug of Lubrimoly. Good stuff. In my E46, I definitely thought I got better gas mileage with that stuff than the BMW conventional oil. Anyone know a good online place for E90 filters? I wanna stock up on those... Oh, and a side plug for Bimmersport. I brought my car in for some non-warranty work and they were awesome as usual. Quite a slog for me to get out to Mississauga, but nobody touches my car for non-warranty work except for them. Good prices to boot. |

when does bmw usually do the first real oil change?
I plan on doing the first oil change after i reach 2000km.. but ya, i think it is worth the money to pay for your own oil change, cause not only does it save future damages but it also allows better gas milage and performace.

ok, guess we have different approaches. I own my 335 and I treat it very well since I'll probably keep it a few years. My wife's car is leased and I couldn't care less about it. Haven't spent an extra cent on it, except for that time she "accidentally" knocked her side view mirror off....

I change the oil in my e92 328i about every 8,000 kms, for about the same price of a regular gas fill up, why cheap out on some simple maintenance? especially for people who are planning to keep their cars for the long run...
I've been during this oil change interval with my 2000 Mercedes E320, and at 120,000 kms on its clock, it has no problems what so ever, just the normal oil change, change out burnt light bulbs, brake pads change, etc...

called my service department at EliteBMW today, they said the oil change happens between 25K - 28K kms. . . . he says b/c I have a new synthetic oil.
that just seems wrong. he also said car gets a tune up after 100,000 km. lol. is today april fools day or something? |

He's fulla' bs. Synthetic was never intended to extend mileage on an oil change.
The filter does its job to a point and then it reaches saturation with solids and the dP increases. The oil still has microparticles of dirt and the concentration keeps increasing. To each his own, I am doing a change every 8000 km (5000 mi) here up North since we see extremes of everything. |

My car hit 2K kms this week. Planning on changing it on the weekend. It only takes 30 minutes.

ya so is mine... but I treat the car with respect, besides whats $100 if you got 60k car... my plan is: I changed it at 10k, then I get free change at 20 by the dealer, then i'll change it myself at 30k and dealer will do it at 40k
