Hello from 'across pond' guys,
Apologies for the very non-BMW thread....
It was my birthday last weekend and my wife has surprised me with a 5 day trip to New York in January.
Needless to say we're both very excited as neither of us has visited NY before.
We plan on doing the typical touristy stuff - Empire State, Chrysler building, Statue of liberty, see a broadway show etc.
We also plan to visit to Ground Zero to pay our respects.
We're looking to do some less traditional tourist type stuff as well (I'm very excited that we have already managed to source some Knicks tickets for the game against Toronto Raptors!!!)
We're staying at the Library hotel on Madisson Av which has some great reviews - looks like a fantastic base for our explorations.
I'm looking to you guys to suggest anything else we can do - anything you think we should visit/see whilst there, as well as some nice restaurants and bars to visit, especially those that don't need reservations weeks in advance.
Hoping you guys (as the specialists) can offer some quality recommendations.

you might wanna look into going on a helicopter tour of manhattan. i dont know a specific company, but i know there are alot.

GO to serendipty 3 for the best dessert in the city.... HmMm what else take a walk around times square... go to a good steak house ben and jacks ask for the waiter drin... What else Hit up canal street just for the experianc elOl but belive me u will buy sumin. Hit up 5th ave. FAO for some toys... I dunnO theres alot to do

Take a nice carriage ride around Central Park. Go ice-skating there too. Visit Chinatown, Times Square, Ellis Island not sure what else there is to do.

Go to Juniors if you like Cheescake and go to Dallas BBQ if you like ribs or wings. Go to 52rs and 6th for the best chicken and rice you have ever tasted(huge tin for $6!!). Its a little stand with a huge line at all times but it moves fast. Do what the other guys said also. Especially the horse and buggy ride. Go to Little Italy also. Enjoy your trip

hahahah i just hit up that spot at 52 and 6th about two weeks ago, really tasty food for people that stay up late and its also a good place for a after party snack.

besides the place that were mention above ^
just pick up one of those new york brochures,( they have it in taxi cabs, hotels and the airport) theres a ton of places in there that i have never heard off before, and i lives in nyc for 15 years

have fun and enjoy the trip, and excuse the people that live there -=x hahahha

Wow, first time to NYC. That's a hard one, as there are so many great things to do. I agree that getting up high for a panoramic view is key. My choice: the GE building at Rockefeller Center. From there you get to see the Empire State builiding, which you don't if you go to the Empire State! Have a drink at the bar attached to the Rainbow room if you like or just have drinks there. Go at night (if they're open) for more drama.

Food would be my next focus. NY is a great food town, just skip indian, it will disappoint someone from the UK. NY reputedly has great BBQ, but I can't verify. I hear Blue Smoke is great. Asian Fusion is hot now, Buddakan (10th Av/16th St i think) is dramatically decorated, and the food's pretty good. Go across the street to Morimoto for the real deal though. For a great steakhouse in Manhattan, my vote is Keen's, on 36th off 6th Ave. Cant beat it for atmosphere - pipe collection including those owned by teddy roosevelt, buffalo bill... original program from the night Lincoln got shot upstairs. On old NY classic. Great steaks too, and a fine wine list.


Lastly, try the Staten Island Ferry. Sounds cheesy to many, it's really magical at sunset.

+1 on all these recommendations. I have been to all of those restaurants and they are great. Some other options might be Blue Ribbon Sushi (late night), the Spotted Pig (mario batali owns this low key bar that serves awesome food), wolfgangs steakhouse (close to your hotel). None of them require a reservation.

I would make sure to get to central park for a weekend exploration - get into see the museum while you're there. Hit Soho up for some shopping and then little italy for drinks and dinner. I like La Mela - no reservation and no menu. Great food!

While you're at the WTC site go check out the rest of the financial district and battery park. You can jump on the Staten Islan ferry for some siteseeing. Its a lot cheaper than the BS Circle Line tours and you get the same views. I DO NOT recommend going to the statue of liberty. It is VERY boring there. And, if you want to climb up into the statue you need to order tickets weeks in advance. BORING!

Sounds like you have plenty of options to choose from..
but what you need to do is goto the E90 meet in January. I'm sure one of us would pick you up.
